Congrats @Trak_Eventer! She is fancy!
Oh. My.
She seems ok, though I feel like Iām walking on eggshells around her hoping nothing else happens. Her blood work was back to normal last check, sheās off all meds, and she is sound. But the way my luck has been⦠well, you knowā¦
I believe Arielle enjoyed all the attention she gathered last year, because she suddenly decided this week to kick things into high gear. Not enough to be worrisome, but enough to make me nervous about some work events I planned for early June thinking there was no way sheād go early this year after going 379 days last yearā¦
Top photo was May 5 (day 293); bottom photo is today (day 309):
It always happens when you think āno way it will happenā and never happens when you think it will!
My filly is huge! Hoping my mare will check in foal on the 25th so they can go back āhomeā from the vet and the filly can start getting more handling again. My contract is for 3 doses for this year but Iām not sure if Iāll try the third if this one doesnāt work. Everything looked great the first time, so Iām hoping it was maybe just moving stress the first time and this time weāll get lucky. I have to pay shipping and handling for each dose, which is really expensive from this broker, and if it doesnāt work twice Iām not that confident itāll work the third time and Iām not sure I want to leave them at the vet any longer than theyāve already been there. The plan was one more foal but I could just put my mare back to work this year after weaning instead.
Trying not to worry about it and weāll just see what happens next week, I suppose!
Not the best pictures but here are some of the fuzzy giant.
She is huge. Wow.
Iām glad you were spared the malpresentation that @EventerAJ was confronted with.
Yikes, looks like Arielle ate a medicine ball overnight! No doubt she is trying to trick you into another month of stress
Next round of preg checks is coming on Tuesday. Fertility dancing continues. Meanwhile, the cost of horse keeping in Ocala is sky rocketing⦠alfalfa blocks in January were about $450/ton; today they are almost $800/ton. Square bales $900/ton and up. Buckeye feed was $25/bag, now $32/bag.
@EventerAJ Itās not just Ocala. On our farm we still only have room to store small loads of hay at a time. I went to my supplier to pick up more today and they were completely out of everything except this terrible, stemmy grass mix for more than what I paid for both alfalfa and fancy orchard grass a few weeks ago. Since I had let myself get too low on hay, I bought a few bales to hold me over a few days while I call the other suppliers I know.
Everyone says prices of hay and feed are going to get very ugly this winter.
we decided to hold off until next year to rebreed Delia. She came up with a mild infection that we had to treat and I really would rather have a March baby than a late may baby. Myrtle is doing well and is one of the most personable foals Iāve ever had. She loves attention and waits for her turn at feeding time. Her grumpy uncle, our 30 year rocky gelding) is enamored with her and is trying to play with her. This has really been a fountain of youth for him. Here she is checking out her ball.
Awwwww!!! We need pics of grumpy uncle! Just picturing in my head that makes me laugh!
My colt is continuing to do well. I canāt help but wonder how big he will be. His parents are both 14.2 hands but his legs are the same size as his mom.
He gallops all over but it is hard to get action pictures. They always come out blurry.
He already picks up his feet and Iāve introduced leading. Today he took the chain off the gate and proceeded to let himself out. He also likes to jump the muck buckets I piled in the corner by the tree.
@JBCool just for youā¦Here is the grumpy uncle. He was trying to figure out how to take off her blanket.
Awwwā¦thanks!
4horses,
What a sweet face!
Is he going to be a buckskin?
I see some black ear tips, and the end of his tail is black. But it also looks like there is black on his legs underneath the lighter hair.
He is so cute either way, Iām just curious.
