2023 Maclay Finals Discussion Thread

I missed the first hour or so this morning supervising turnout group Tetris… looks like a nice course.

Brian’s yapping is already annoying me. Thank God for Ava.

Goodness, that was beautifully measured start to finish for Sofia Cady.

My hobbies include muting the livestream as soon as I tune in. Which is unfortunate because I really like Ava’s commentary.

They’ve also been panning away pretty quickly if someone is coming off, so sometimes it’s a bit hard to tell with some of the falls. Which, no one wants to see someone fall but a few of them have made good saves as well.

Grace’s horse was a little looky down the whole combination line and never got his eye on that arch wall at the end. He was so stinkin adorable though. I loved his expression.

Honestly I think both of the commentators could talk less. It’s tiring hearing the same “oh good effort, nice track, etc etc”. What I would love to hear is at least the horse’s name even if there is not other information about them

So happy for her round. She’ll be thrilled. I hope it sticks through the day! She’s worked so hard and is such a great girl.

Man I hate that wall

The one good thing about the rainbow brite jump is that it will explode outwards if you hit it so you don’t have to bang your knees on a rail. That’s the only thing I like about it.

They’ve said there’s “not a set number just a reference number” to that Gucci wall, but you can tell the kids that have been told 7, and didn’t actually make the track happen.
That’s gonna need a little repair time.

I wonder if that wall is reading weird to the horses with those colorblocks? Because it doesn’t seem to be oddly positioned or a tricky approach that would be causing so many problems.

It looks like wallpaper on the bottom and a box of after dinner mints on the top.

I like Bobby’s jumps, but that one really bothers me.

Naughty grey horse. Naughty!!!

Good thing it’s got a spur square in it’s clip - she’s going to need them!

He saw the last horse go through the rainbow brite and wished to express his concerns.

Good for her, how well she got around after that initial spook!

Really good riding, Paloma! Really nice work staying composed when her horse attempted to decline the invitation to participate after already committing to come to the dance. He came out of the ring a better horse.

Wow Paloma Primavera rode the hell out of that horse after he didn’t even want to leave the ingate. Good for her.

Brian - great to talk about the inspiration for the Maclay, but be real about how horses are prepared for this class these days. There is not a lot of horsemanship involved in the horse preparation anymore.

I want to give her a 90 for making it happen with such patience and grace.
