Bring back slaughter within the United States. Then its a controlled and regulated practice.
I donât disagree with this idea, but if you read the report I posted, itâs clear that the global market for horse meat has tanked. I think just outlawing the feedlots and cross-border transportation of livestock headed for slaughter would do a much better job.
So they just stand around and starve to death?
I read it. I know they want the horses to have âa different kind of ownerâ -------
And how is that magically going to happen?
Not sure what you mean. I am not against humane slaughter. But if you read it, then you saw how drastically the numbers of horses shipped dropped as of 2022. The point is, IMO, that the feedlots and shippers need to be regulated and prosecuted for animal cruelty if they donât mend their ways. If there isnât a profit to be made, the slaughter houses in Mexico and Canada will go away. Then what?
Thank you for posting this link. Very informative. Itâs sad to again see the number of horses that went to slaughter following the tax law changes in ~1987, and then again following the recession ~2008. Giant reductions in the number of horses in the US.
Thatâs my point. There is no magic way that starvation and neglect stops because we stop them from hauling over the border.
I fully agree that they should be held accountable for humane transportation. Iâm just annoyed with Marty Irby, former padded horse guy, arguing for better owners. My dude, padded horses are still tortured for fun and roses. Come on already.
I do think that attitudes towards euthanasia are changing to prevent horses from entering the slaughter pipeline. I wonder if that has had any effect on the numbers.
Thanks for this. But what are âpadded horses?â
The old school TWH show horse wearing ridiculous clown shoes to exaggerate their gait. Well known for terrible things being done for the big lick gait. he just wanted a job, IMO. There is no actual caring about the horse.
Marty:
Ah. Thank you. Yes I really despise what they do to those poor TWHs.
