I wouldn’t expect high numbers given we don’t have a ton of people to fill a final anyway, but I’m always surprised its 4 from each region. out here in Alberta we tend to get less than 10 in the regional (hunters/eq aren’t very big here, it’s all jumpers), but Ontario was always much bigger into that scene. Having it be like 30 and percentage based (with a minimum per region) seems potentially more fair.
I wonder if the small number for the final is related to the fact that they like to keep the Royal appealing to spectators who might not know much about horses.
So an equitation class with 16 in it would only take about half as long as the same class with 30 in it before they move on to the next thing.
