2024 Olympics - Eventing

Liz’s Nutcracker is drool worthy. She rode so well. Bummer about the flying changes, but just think about how much lower the score would have been had they been clean.

Next ride is 8:15 EST. Time for a little break and some baking for me!

That was a lovely ride! Well done Liz and Nutcracker. I smiled at Lucinda’s comments about Nutcracker perhaps not yet ready to show off the flying changes in public.

good idea

I’ve also got the generic Olympic coverage on in the interim. Fun to see some other stuff too.

I interpreted it as her acknowledgement of all it takes to even be in consideration, getting so close and then not realizing that dream. It’s heartbreaking, especially in her case as Mai Baum is 18 this year.

The test is super tough, especially the canter work. They basically do 2 changes from quarter line to quarter line within 9-10 strides plus the eventing equivalent of a half pass zig-zag which I don’t believe has ever been in a test before (same with picking up the counter canter lead from walk). If you compare it to the other 5* tests the canter work is much harder. The angle of the half passes in both trot and canter is also steeper than you’d normally see, so I feel for the riders as I’m not sure how far in advance the test came out!

EN has a nice article about it: https://eventingnation.com/breaking-down-the-olympic-dressage-test/

Is there a place to watch the score board live? I only see an option for team scores so far.

Go U.S.A. everyone is killing it!

Looks like it’s raining again! I hope that means it’s staying a little cooler at the very least.

One of the studio blurbs on NBC said it’s 65 in Paris right now. So pretty ideal temp for horse sports, even if the rain isn’t great.

Is Laura going to be sub-20??? Echoing Lucinda to say it can’t get a whole lot better than that. That extended canter :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

17.5??? Is that a new Olympic record?

Yes! Brought a tear to my eye. Their partnership is amazing!

It’s their lowest score ever as a pair, what a time to peak! I can’t get over how uphill, powerful yet relaxed he was, plus how accurate and well Laura rode. So well deserved!

WOW that was an amazing ride by Laura and London 52!!! I have a feeling I’ll be watching that one on replay many times in appreciation of the masterful ride.

Given the Brits’ XC prowess, I’m feeling like this competition is going to turn into a battle for silver
