2025 Jim Dandy

Take a look at this race to see what amounts to a breeze for Sovereignty. The finish is misleading, they did not have him tuned race keen, allowed him to relax down the backside then circle the field and push the button with just a hand ride to dismiss Baeza then strut into the WC barely breathing harder than the Pony.

Hopefully he beats the curse of the Travers and we see him in November, maybe against the big gun 4 year olds.

So sorry he did not run in the Preakness.

I know, I know…

And Baeza the unluckiest horse birthday since Alydar

Had he run back in the Preakness, he may not be where he is right now…he has noticeably grown and filled out just since the Belmont.

I thought Sovereignty looked a tad tired despite a modest pace. I think he is one of the most impressive looking horses we have seen in recent years. Just his overall size and mass and his head is just stunning. It’ll be interesting to see who turns up for the Travers but I hope he gets it done.

I think Baeza could be very dangerous later in the year and as a four year old. He has the talent, he’s just mentally starting to mature now. He showed a ton of grit this past weekend.

Sandman needs to be turned out for a bit and come back fresh or try the turf.

IMO he was not tired, more like relaxed and won for fun in what was described by Mott as just getting a prep race to stretch his legs with no expectations. Acacias paddock evaluation was he was very relaxed and not as keenly tuned as he would be for a major race. Jockey echoed that saying he let the other horse take it down the backstretch because he knew he could take it back later without wasting the horse. To my eye he had plenty left as he galloped out and walked into that WC.

Last furlong was 12 and change so not a struggle. Baeza was game but not enough at the end and, IMO and much as I like Sandman and his connections, he might benefit from stepping down a level. Love Arthurs Ride too but he failed to fire in his race.
