It is not about being aware of hazards to animals and protecting them from such situations. It’s not about finding a way to address this problem without traumatizing the animal.
It’s about him being rough & tough … with an animal. Dominating the animal. As he does with his horses.
Horses getting away from him … I don’t know the facts, but random guess that this is happening on his rest stops and/or overnight, because he doesn’t know how to properly picket or otherwise secure them. He has to sleep, or process/upload a video, or whatever non-horse. The horses are hungry, they find they can leave, they go looking for grass. Just a guess.
It’s got a hondo, Cyrils terrible video & cow skills just make it hard to see LOL. It looks like a Heat or some other rope that’s easily purchased at the local tractor supply. I agree though, I would definitely NOT invite anyone in this video to a branding.
I’m going to assume no since someone else had it in their hand at the beginning. I’m also assuming the cow just pulled it out of their hands and the chase ensued. Definitely looks like there were a lot of fingers and no hands during the entire situation.

When I saw the little mini cow try to use her horns, I was rootin’ for her. Too bad she was just a mini and not accustomed to using her horns in that way.

I am sure you are not the only one that experienced schadenfreude when Cereal was on his back and the cow went after him. I just wish she was a proper sized cow and she made contact a few times.
I hope Ol Pete and Falcon run off as many times as they can.
By the way - the article mentioned him as "A Texas man … ". The state is already being tagged by media with horrible aspersions, could we not add one more that isn’t even true.
Good animal care and management are not the theme around Knucklehead, as we know.
He would never have gotten himself involved with that. 
How did he get tagged as the cow wrangler, anyway? What was his interaction with these people that he was there at all? I wonder how that whole situation developed.
Maybe they were helping him catch his horses … and maybe Knucklehead noticed the cow and said “hey I can do that” … who knows how long the cow had been wearing the string.
It wasn’t an emergency. As someone said above, those people were totally unprepared to handle the situation in a reasonable way, and in the best interests of the cow.
Cowboys don’t like bragging. The old Aw Shucks is real.
I know nothing about cows, but I feel like I heard a woman’s voice essentially telling him “that’s enough now” or some such thing in the video. I wonder if he decided to take things into his own hands at some point and wasn’t following along with whatever the owner’s plan was?

Well, they appear to be “yard” cows, and in my recent experience… people who keep “yard animals” often don’t know even the most basic husbandry rules. It’s probably left over from some moldy ditch grass roundbale.

Also - at the very beginning, two other cows are so frightened they jump over a wire fence. They do not clear it. They belly across the top portion.
Of course the video does not show possible injuries to those cattle. Hopefully it wasn’t barbed wire. But what if one of them had an udder that could’ve been damaged.
Where did they land? Was it on the same property? Were they in a fenced enclosure still?
This guy may have done more harm than good. Stupid. Zero regard for the animals, just his own publicity.
