Latest FB post puts him at Teton County Fairgrounds.
If anyone is in the area, & he hasn’t resumed his “quest”, maybe a chance to verify the horses’ condition?

@firecracker Thanks for posting the pics, but sad to see Pete’s condition.

ETA:
This from the FB page.
Falcon’s condition also not good.
And his eye… :sleepy:
But yeah, Cereal is giving him a carrot. Good sub for proper feed :unamused:

Is the bay a stock type horse? If yes,no wonder he’s worn slap out. That twh has that rolling walk with overstride that a normal horse often/typically/usually has to really work to keep up with or they break into a jog.

I actually really like that spotted guy, he’s got a nice way about his gait and he hasn’t killed this guy. TWHs are too forgiving and too tough.

Teton County Fairgrounds is in the town of Jackson; edge of town, really. Not a remote location, at all, unlike the vast majority of the county. Jackson is a fun tourist town; Knucklehead/Cereal/Zero will probably stick around for a while and play, enjoying (entirely too much) his notoriety. Jackson, despite its remoteness, is quite sophisticated, with some high-powered people, including a fair amount in entertainment/media.

There is a lot of money in Jackson.

I saw a fireworks display at the Fairgrounds and thought, wow, there must have been a lot of developments in fireworks since I last saw a show! No, these people can just afford to spend money on theirs.

That spotted guy, Falcon, seems entirely too forgiving, IMHO. Poor Ol’ Pete; Knucklehead couldn’t call him lean and fit; that would require a basic knowledge of anything about horse condition.

And stressed and in pain…a just universe would have Cereal feeling every ache and pain and hunger pang his horses experience, multiplied by a factor of 10.

Unfortunately, I figure the same thing will happen. He’ll be eating fine, drinking his fill of beer and enjoying whatever goodies and favors he can filch off the locals.

The close up photo of Falcon is sad. He looks thin, exhausted, and resigned to his miserable fate.

Exactly, he’s riding an Apple and ponying an Orange. The poor bay must have to jog the entire time.

That’s too much rib showing on the bay horse. He needs a minimum week off with free choice hay, etc.

Well, maybe he’ll get it. Jackson is a fun town; Cereal will probably like sticking around.

There are seriously knowledgeable horse people there, maybe one or more will be saddled with the horse care, although they may think that they’re just allowing Knucklehead to keep his horses there, not realizing he won’t actually do any care stuff, like, I dunno, feeding.

And maybe one of those horsewise people will notice the pi**poor condition Pete (if not Falcon too) is in & do something?
Sadly, just pointing it out to Cereal will do no good.
Cuz, yannow, he’s on a QUEST :unamused:

I am going to be sick.

Do you think he colicked or just collapsed from exhaustion?

Or sulled up from exhaustion. And I kind of hope he did learn to sull up and lie down for a break.

I fear things will go from bad to worse for poor Pete

He is so unreliable on SM that I figure Pete didn’t actually colic, more likely just collapsed or said no. Colic is “respectable” and “happens to everyone” while collapsing of exhaustion isn’t.

My mare did start to exhibit impaction colic symptoms once under saddle on a short ride and lay down as soon as I got her saddle off but mostly you see or before you ride

Also if your horse is colicking the first thing you do is take off the saddle, not video it. Makes me think this is more collapse

Those of you who have seen dehydration/exhaustion, like this - is the sweat pattern part of it? In the view of his rump with the orange pad, that pattern looks weird to me. Is it just me?

Yes, have seen it in tying up.

I was just about to come here and say that while I believe he would colic & am surprised that both of them haven’t already… this looks suspiciously like tying up. And a horse that isn’t conditioned for this terrain or acclimated (even for a “friendly” trail ride) 100% could do so. Especially the fact he’s not sweating and is super drawn up.

I almost lost a TB to tying up after a hunter pace once and it looked a lot like this. Note - my horse was actually conditioned for that day, and had even been cooled down before he started tying up. However, it was hotter than expected and we still almost had a disaster.

Yes, I’ve volunteered at Tevis and have seen a lot of cases. Those horses are conditioned to the gills, as conditioned as they can possibly be. They are constantly monitored, watered, electrolytes, dismounted to give them breaks but it still can occur seemingly out of nowhere. It’s devastating for the riders; most of them live with their horses and are totally hands on.

In this ridiculous situation it’s almost a given.

Pete is just about done. This is so sad and unnecessary.
