So, I guess someone either reported them, or else they realized that shows are still banned under Governor Abbott’s order. A ban on sporting events with more than 4 people is just that, a ban or sporting events with more than 4 persons.
Not sure what you are talking about. As far as I know, the show is still going ahead this week. It is a reining show later in the month that is being postponed again. But, since that was posted on GSWEC’s Facebook page, it certainly seemed contradictory or at the very least a mixed message.
It is illegal for them to run the show. The governors office stated that there are no venues that are allowed to operate that are considered stadiums, arenas, etc. A horse show I was told is considered an “equestrian event” and events aren’t allowed under the current order. Riding your horse at home is fine because it’s not an event and one on one (less than 4ppl rule). It’s not under the sports order that this is illegal. The fact they also are offering RVs on site is a big issue, because that encourages social gathering in the eyes of the law. I’m positive it will be shut down if they still try to have it, and according to the prize list and release that everyone gets no refunds would be issued. People should be smarter than this.
Yes will be interesting to see how this plays out. One could argue that the Reining competition would be held indoors, i.e a stadium whilst the H/J show is outdoors. A H/J round is one person in the ring at a time. The owner of the complex, I’m sure, has looked into the complexities and probably knows a lawyer or two. Just guessing!
But I hear ya. I think they should not hold it either but I am sure it is based on the state of the Industry.
I wasn’t commenting on whether or not the show is in accordance with the current order. I was simply stating the fact that the show is happening.
Doesn’t mean that they won’t get shutdown on the weekend and everyone loses their money and potentially get fined? Guess that’s a risk people want to take…
I hate big blanket statements that paint the whole country with one bad wide brush. This is not a US problem, not blanket US doing bad. This is one show at one location. I am sure if we looked around one could find one group in Canada not doing what is best too and that certainly would not be all of Canada’s fault.
Barns in my part of the world are still closed. I have not ridden in … too long to count… and my horses are at home. Schools are closed for the rest of the year. We have rules about going out. Restaurants are closed. All that stuff.
They moved all of the arenas outdoors, not using the tellepsen, main indoor, or East arena (wheles). If you actually read the order, no more than 4 persons may play a sport. Play is the time in competition. They are limiting flat classes to 4 at a time, I still don’t know about warm up rings.
Again, I am not going and I don’t think it’s a particularly good idea, but from a legality perspective, they should be in the clear.
While I agree people should be smarter, there is no way to be “positive” it will be shut down. They are in compliance as far as everything I have read. The RV situation may lead to social gathering, but TBD on if anyone does anything about it. The RV area is not one that can be seen by others to be reported, and unless the local police are monitoring closely, I can imagine it would go unnoticed.
They are monitoring it closely, I have a friend here in Dallas, who reported it to the governor’s office and spoke to the legal counsel for the county. They have to let it start to bust them and I guarantee you the authorities will be there with what she showed me from an email. Glad the trainers I know up here in Dallas chose not to go.
It’s actually not the sport rules that they’re looking at. You’re not allowed to have any “event” and there’s no operation allowed of event facilities, a sports complex, an arena, or stadium. They are considering this an “equestrian event”. The 4ppl is for outdoor recreation (riding your horse at the barn), not a larger competition where you have what they’re considering a gathering of over 5 people outside of your household. After watching the USEF recording yesterday I doubt GSWEC was prepared to do what Madden and ESP mentioned they will be doing at their shows to protect everyone. ESP will have strict times and you will have to show up and leave right after.
Why the heck does someone in DALLAS care so much about what is going on in Katy? Just choose not to go to the show. That’s what many trainers did. I don’t understand living 250 miles away and deciding to call the authorities in an attempt to get the show “busted.” Bizarre.
I agree, I chose not to go personally because I feel like we don’t know enough after not even a week of 25% of things open, and most stores and restaurants have opted out, but if people feel comfortable that is their choice. I think things should be run legally by management and as safely as possible and that takes significant time and work with state/local health officials. After joining the USEF Zoom meeting the other day, I feel like more will need to be done and this will take time to get right. I think the bigger horse show managements wouldn’t have taken this risk-for instance, I am from CA originally and spend my summers out there, and I don’t think West Palm or Blenheim would have done a show this soon without full approval. It sounds like they maybe don’t have approval, of course who knows if that is true or not and I don’t care because I am not going. We all do need to do our part to try to keep this from spreading and an outbreak due to any type of restaurant, event, horse show, movie theater, or anything else could cause a bigger problem for the long term.
Yes, I’m not going for a variety of reasons. After reading through all the restrictions, it didn’t sound like any fun at all. And they are charging A show prices for a schooling show. No thanks. I’ll wait.
i also have not rushed out to a restaurant. I’ll let everyone else do that and see how it all shakes out in a couple of weeks.
But I have no problem with other people doing whatever they are comfortable doing.
Exactly! Did you hear the new USEF rules? It’s sounding like it will be rough for awhile. Not my idea of a fun social event to go far away out of state to!
If people get sick after it will affect all shows in Texas moving forward. We want Tyler to be able to happen in June if it’s approved by the state. If people get sick that won’t happen.
I know. â˜¹ï¸ It’s going to be awhile before horse shows are normal again. Horse shows are literally my vacation. I’m not doing it if it isn’t going to be fun. Half of the reason I do horse shows is to hang out with friends, cheer each other on, watch the derby and Grand Prix, watch the division you aspire to, etc. Not to mention I like to hand graze my horse as much as possible. I am not going to pay thousands of dollars to simply show my horse and leave.
So are you affiliated with the Tyler show? This still seems SO bizarre to me to go to the lengths you have to try to get this show shut down. And then to come here and post about it.
This show wouldn’t even be on the state’s radar, if you hadn’t brought it to their attention. I guess Dallas people are operating differently than Houston people.
No and I am not who reported it to anyone. I started this blog post because me and several others wondered why they would do this so soon and how they could. With contact tracing they would figure it out if many people got sick. Sorry you’re so upset by people trying to look out for the greater good.
What makes you think I’m upset? I’m not. I am simply dumbfounded that someone 250 miles away thinks it is their duty to try to get this show shut down.
Did you (or your “friend”) bother to take the first step of contacting show management and politely asking what steps they took to ensure running the show is within the current guidelines? If you are so concerned for the greater good, that seems like a good place to start.
How is it helpful to the greater good to let everyone arrive today, move in, school, etc. and THEN get shut down? Any spread of the virus will have already happened before it is shut down. Seems it would have been best to shut it down before it started, if you think it is such a threat to the greater good.
