For anyone looking for a GSD these dogs are going out to numerous shelter for re-homing.
This Orlando Shelter, Pet Alliance, has taken in 21 of these dogs for re-homing. Some are nice looking dogs.
I just do not understand people sometimes.
We got 38 here at a local Greeneville rescue, but the news reported that they wonât be adopted out here. Instead theyâll go to the Mid-Atlantic Shepherd Rescue (or something close to that name) in Maryland for adoption after theyâve been rehabbed down here.
So if anyone wants one, Iâd contact the MD rescue and not the local âhelpersâ.
BTW, the ones that came here are thin and covered in mange. But they look sweet. So sad.
From whatâs on FB the dogs are being spread out to many different rescues/shelters. Daytona Bch, Fl. took 36,
several shelters in PA. took some, Orlando took 21.
From pictures, thereâs all colors, ages and types. Some look very nice, if a little rough. Poor dogs.
Iâm sure every single one will perk up and appreciate the lifestyle upgrade. Every rescue dog Iâve had has been the
most grateful dog. I think they do realize and appreciate whatâs happened.
https://magsr.org/ is the MD rescue for anyone whoâs interested.
(No personal experience with them, but they seem like a good group.)
How did local people not know someone had 300+ dogs. It must take a tremendous amount of food to keep them from starving in only a few weeksâŠpeople had to have known???
My impression of the south in general is that dogs and cats do not get the same level of care as we expect in the northeast.
I would guess that people figure she is a breeder so of course will have a lot of dogs and there is quite a bit of MYOB that goes on. If the dogs and property wasnât visible from the street nobody would have known the conditions these dogs lived in.
Thanks for the link. I just made a donation via their Amazon wish list.
This case is 2 hours from where I live. I too wonder why it was not attended to before it got to this. From one of my rescue friends there is more to it, not sure what that means. I donât know why the Dept of Ag let it get this bad, they should be inspecting them. They do me, my little boarding barn and all the rescueâs I deal with they keep on top of them.
So far from what I understand only 5 have needed euthanasia. But many are in horrible shape. They are being dispersed out to various rescues here in Ga and all over.
A neighbor across the street from me has had about 40 huskies. Once they start barking I have no idea how many are over there, and they have huge high fences. A neighbor told me itâs down to around 20 or so now?!?
Ok, maybe if you had 15. Or 30. But buying food for 450 dogs? The local pet stores must all know her? How on earth does someone feed that many dogs? (I mean, obviously, they donât do it very well.) But stillâŠthis didnât just happen overnight.
Not to mention Google Earth has been around for a long time. I can see that one of my neighbors has about 30 beehives on 6 acres. I canât believe that no one could see that this person owned a crapload of dogs.
S they knew, Dept of Ag has been involved. It is my understanding this has been ongoing for 7 yrs. Not sure what finally tipped the scale.
That is my point. People knew- they just either figure these dogs are her personal property so not their business or hey they are just dogs. So she is a big breeder/puppy mill. Of course she will have a lot of dogs. The animal protections in that area are not as good as other states. The enforcement is not as good as other states. Many (not all) people have different attitudes about dogs in the south. They is why, in general, they donât spay and neuter as much as in Northern States. That is why there are many dogs from the south are brought up to the north by rescues.
It isnât that people didnât know it is just that they carry a different mindset about how dogs are cared for and how involved they should get in their neighbors business.
The house I currently owner in had a breeder of Great Danes that was the prior owner. Now she only had 24 dogs but even 15 years ago she was having food shipped to her by pallet. Likely this person was getting it shipped in by the pallet. I doubt she was getting dog food for 450 locally and not in bulk.
Just want to clarify that we here in the âsouthâ do have towns and cities and areas that believe in spaying and neutering.
All states have rural areas that have breeders/hoarders that provide less than stellar care of animals.
Itâs not just a southern thing, itâs a rural, ignorance thing.
There are places in virtually every state that have puppy mills, and others that may have registered animals, they still mass produce puppies for one or more breeds. Itâs not just a southern thing.
On the animal cops shows on Animal Planet, there were puppy mills, and animal hoarders in every location they featured.
