I can’t remember, can someone remind me? I feel like it is usually surprising to me how many of the tabs you give for their size.
If you have the 960mg tabs it is 1 tab per 100 lbs. At least that is what I was told many years ago and follow that dosage. But of course you should ask your vet…I don’t recall ever using SMZ on a foal.
Your vet should be giving your dosages and the medication for the specific infection you’re battling. If you haven’t spoken to your vet regarding your foal, I would not give him/her anything until you do so. Giving your horse SMZ/TMP without speaking to your vet first could create problems for your foal, as well as contribute to antibiotic resistance. It’s broad spectrum antibiotic/antiprotazoal, however, your vet may prescribe a different drug to better combat whatever infection you’re dealing with.
Thanks guys! All of my foals have been prescribed SMZs before for various things (self inflicted injuries, minor cough with no fever), I went back through my texts to check dosage and as you said it’s the same as horses, 1 tablet per 100 lbs. Thanks!
