$500 just to look? WTF?

Some how I picture the owner of that farm sitting behind a big table saying (with a Dr. Evil accent) “My horses are so wonderful. I know I can sell them for ONE MILLION DOLLARS. Bwahahaha.”

Knowing that there is a hidden majikal market that I didn’t know about, the Plow Beast is now for sale for one gagillion dollars. Do I have any takers?

Timonium, for now.

It just seems odd to want to go to VSH, after looking. I got a lovely draft cross (3/4 TB) direct from the farm where he was bred in Canada without any of those bizarre regulations. I think the threatening nature of it (“you’ll be blacklisted if you figure out our source!!!”) is just ridiculous.

Was the deposit not part of the program when you bought? Is it waived if you are a repeat customer?

Wow! I had no idea my orig. post would spawn…

… a classic COTH thread!

NOW am I visible?

But serously… I’ve browsed the horses at that site for awhile. Some are not too bad looking, but I never read all the ‘fine-print’.

I have no problem with people importing aqnd re-selling PMU horses. No problem with ‘mutts’ either. But to threaten people for buying horses that have listed but do not even own? They need to work that out witht he owners, not the buyers!

So - I know some of you have sent email to VSH commenting on their proactices… any responses?

Why don’t you call and ask him? Since you KNOW me? His name is Don, btw, so you can ask. Look, I’m just having good laugh at a ridiculous website. I have nothing personal against PMU horses but selling them as “Canadian Sporthorses” IS stretching it a bit. And well, if you like buying horses under those conditions, well…knock yourself!

I have no idea who you are…and I seriously doubt you have any idea who I am. But, carry on…I’m sure your posting just will add to the entertainment of others.

That confirms it. I officially have NO idea of who you are. And trust me, I am not important enough for you to have ANY idea of who I am. Nice try.

Wow…I didn’t read the entire thread but I thought that it was impressive that this topic got 260 replies in less than 2 days… that’s pretty good.

dehere98, come on back to reality…that’s it…breathe deep…you can come out of the Twilight Zone…
It is SO BLATANTLY apparent that this Liz Booth person is trying ever so hard to cater to people who think a bunch of gobbledeygoop pages on a contract mean that this horse seller must really know what she is doing - NOT to one who has owned horses before, or does now, and who knows where and who to buy horses from LEGITIMATELY.
I have a drop dead lovely 17.1 TB gelding built like a brick s**thouse and Ipaid $1300 for him AFTER a prepurchase. Found him online. I’ve bought and sold 9 TBs in the last three years, never paying more than $1500 and never selling for more than $5000. I sell for what I think they are worth for my time and their talent. I do it for fun, and because I love seeing one find success after the track. I don’t try to misrepresent them as the next Olympic contender. Why? Because I have a REP-U-TA-TION to worry about. Repeat customers? Liz is full of manure. Hours of operation when you are ALLOWED to some see YOUR horse? Don’t think that would work for most owners. She wants ignorant, meek new horse owners who feel privileged to be in her barn, not seasoned riders. Why? Cause she CAN’T FOOL THEM! She wants first-time buyers, or reriders on a budget. Why? Cause she can steer them into buying HER HORSES without vetting, a valid Coggins, or a trial period. You know, normal things most of us would expect when we pay money for a horse.
LIZ BUDDIES - Where are you, what did you buy from her…tell us all about it, if you want to defend her. And oh yes, state your name and where you live. I’m Lynne, in Alabama.

I was one of the ones who emailed Liz and have not gotten any response. Go figure.

(1) I am the original poster who started this thread. Yes, I do have too much time on my hands, but there are some very legitimate complaints in this thread. The practices posted on the VHS (not allowing pre-purchase exams, re-stocking fees, etc) are highly unconventional and, I believe, not always int he best interests of the horses. I have never been ‘turned away’ from VHS - I am only familiar with their website.

(2) the thread was intended to discuss statements made by VHS in writing on their own website, not to provide a venue for you or anyone else to trot out what ever totally unrelated ‘issues’ you have with other COTH members.

“And he is most certainly not “irish bred” LOL”

Maybe “Irish bred” means a few people sat around with a bottle of wiskey and planned out which stallion to breed to which mare?

Pacificsolo! BAAAHAAAHAAA!!!

It certainly does stop “site see-ers and tyre kickers”.

We sold a few Ferrari’s last weekend, and that was the deal.

$10,000 Deposit to bid on them.

Pre sale day any one could look at them.

On Auction Day ONLY people who had PAID a deposit were allowed in to view them

THe DEposits were refundable,it certainly did work well,it was a new idea to me,but having to deal with idjuts is very trying.

Fernie, but how many folks do you think would have shown up, if the deposit hadn’t been refundable?

A deposit isn’t out of the question, but it should be refunded if there isn’t a sale.

WHAT A CROCK! LOL Jesus you would think that they were selling olympic type mounts but low and behold they are selling draft crosses and even their “premium” horses are around the 5 k mark . WHAT A JOKE…I can’t even believe it!!!

pmu

AND I’d also like to agree with the poster who mentioned the pmu idea. I live in Alberta and horses like they have on their site are a dime a dozen here due to pmu. The crosses they have listed are exactly what is commonly used here for pmu…and yes I believe shipping is around 500 per horse if you ship a few at a time. What losers.

Only read the first few pages of the thread, will finish later. But did go to the website. These people are pretty funny. But this is my favorite so far (sorry if someone has posted it already, but haven’t read the whole thread).

Trailer Loading Charge: All of our horses will load easily and willingly in an OPEN STOCK TRAILER. We are happy to arrange reasonably priced transport for you in a suitable trailer. Our horses are not priced to allow us to spend time training – or ruining training – by forcing your horse to load in a small or uninviting trailer… Please be aware that a “penny-wise/pound foolish” decision which involves saving $100 on your part can traumatize your new horse, cause frustration and anger, and is just plain dangerous… No one is happy when they have to go home without their new horse and then pay to ship him anyway. For that reason we charge a $100 trailer loading surcharge for those who intend to pick-up their horses themselves. We will happily assist you for up to one person/hr (i.e., 1 person 1 hr = 2 people 1/2 hr ea). If your horse loads in less than 1/2 hour with one person’s assistance, this surcharge will be refunded… After 1 hour, we will be happy to arrange alternate shipping arrangements.

They charge to load the horse!!! Give me a break. But after everything we have read, it doesn’t surprise me.

Fernie, last time I checked, there was no comparison between a Ferrari and a PMU or draft cross raggedy looking part-broke under-cared-for horse. Maybe you are thinking “horsepower…horses…” but it’s like comparing a FEMA trailer and a 5th Ave apartment. I can understand you requiring a credit check before purchase on a $200,000 car. But a deposit - UNREFUNDABLE - to look at a $1200 horse, well, that’s bullsheet. Some times the best thing you can do is kick a few tires.

This thread MUST be saved in the COTH favorites archive! It’s priceless!

There is at least one more questionable dealer in that area. I’ve been to the other one…at least I didn’t pay $500 to get in. I know people who board there. I change clothes after I leave. However the people who board there are quite happy.

I AGREE! Erin - please save this one!

I apologize for being so stupid,I have not had time to read the whole thread,so I assumed it was about Asking for deposits when viewing items for sale.

When I have time, I will read the whole thing.

Sorry to be so dumb.

Normally coth-ers are a little kinder towards my senility.

Guess times are changing.
