A bit like this, but in egg butt or loose ring

My sensitive soul loves this western-oriented snaffle bit https://www.statelinetack.com/item/western-ss-mullen-copper-roller-d-ring-bit/E008425/?srccode=GPSLT&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuGNBhCPARIsACbnLzrAoFZ5Dqgo7QGT56WvpntnCsgU2RhqVJaW-l33sC2TR8VOtBnmLGIaAsnWEALw_wcB

It’s a Mullen mouth with copper inlays and a roller, made from sweet iron. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a bit that exists like this in an egg butt or loose ring. I hate the D, because my reins that have handy clips (which I love) end up on occasion stuck on the other side of the D juncture. It probably doesn’t have to be sweet iron, but the mullen and roller are really important.

I’ve searched but I may just be missing it. TIA!

Looks like a myler bit.

They have the copper inlays as well.

I have never seen that combination of features. You need the rings they way you need them. It must be a mullen mouth? You need the black kind of sweat iron, too? It’s got to be copper?

The Myler is a good bet if you can give up some features. I’ll bet that between Western World and English, you can find a loose ring that will come close.

I’ve put a gazillion bits in this horse’s mouth, and mullen is a definite yes.

He dislikes too much movement in his mouth and I think he likes way it keeps the pressure off his bars. He does not like the thickness of a rubber or synthetic mullen (otherwise that would be way easier). I don’t think it needs to be the black kind of sweet iron necessarily but I haven’t tried a sweet iron mullen without the copper roller, or a copper roller without the sweet iron. He does seem to really like the roller. It would be ideal, of course, if it had all of those features, but I’m just looking to get as close as I can to try the next thing without adding too many more bits to our ever-growing collection.

If everything on there is a must-have, you might be able to cut the current cheekpieces off, and have a metalworker put rings on it for you. $$, but possible.

Okay so I found some websites that may work. This looks like a comfort mouth like a Myler and this website has a ton of those with sweet iron. Some don’t have the copper roller in the middle, just a roller. They do take a little while to ship so I would message them on FB to make sure they have the exact bit in the size you need in stock. They also do custom for pretty reasonable prices.

I also had the D-ring version of this bit, it’s a little pricier but the Cupreon material is sweet kind of like sweet iron and shipped pretty fast.

Oh good find!! He might really like the baucher or the fixed ring in those. I suspect what he’ll like is the roller and the ability to keep the bit off the bars. Thank you!!!

Fager has a similar loose ring in titanium - https://fagerbitsusa.com/collections/loose-ring-bits/products/fager-nina-titanium-barrel-loose-rings

Metalab has a stainless steel one. I’m not sure the ring configuration is dressage legal, so you may want to check if that’s important to you - https://www.statelinetack.com/item/metalab-mullen-barrel-loose-ring-bit-14mm/E029935%2045/?srccode=GPSLT&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuGNBhCPARIsACbnLzq0CxPmbKNl0jL7keTs27fR4WxNWwMFrUTcBYidcv3PW0cZ3wYwa8IaArX3EALw_wcB

Bowman bits will build it for you custom. Not crazy pricy either.

If you intend to show, check out the latest on which bits are legal. There are some restrictions, if I recall correctly, on use of multiple metals.

the multiple metal rule was dropped some time ago

The multiple metal rule is no longer in existence! I contacted USDF about this specifically as I was worried my bit wouldn’t be legal because of the metals

Good to know that rule was dropped. Thanks
