A Bizarre and Inexcusable Incident

I hope changes in protocol are put in effect immediately.

That story is appalling on every level. I hope every person who should have helped that poor rider–and didn’t–is summarily fired for not doing their jobs.

It’s incredible that these people are so incompetent. To flagrantly disregard the life and well being of a worker, in what is a very dangerous workplace…no excuse.

OMG! Unbelievable! I hope there is follow up & appropriate repercussions for those that didn’t do their job!!

OMG… what on earth happened to have something that major fall through the cracks.

Yeah, I get the horse fell and rolled over the rider and then continued on loose. Where were the outriders and other track personnel to sound the horn and warn other riders on the track of the incident.

Why on earth did she have to wait and then crawl to the outside rail to then be hounded for her license.

Ohio State Racing Commission executive director William Crawford could not be reached for comment. No kidding.

Why have the jocks not boycotted Belterra Park after this?

Inexcusable for sure, bizarre not so much. As an EMT I have often been horrified by the ineptitude I witnessed first hand at the race track over the years.

I have seen the ineptitude of EMTs before, however demanding credentials of a seriously injured rider by track security strikes me as bizarre.

Bizarre to me means unusual. There is nothing unusual about that in my experience

Really? It is not unusual in your experience to remove an injured rider from and ambulance and take them in a golf cart to find their credentials?

It’s not unusual for them to do all sorts of screwed up things that would get them fired anywhere else, no. Maybe not specifically that but lots of other inept things like the time two trainers did CPR on an injured exercise rider right in front of my barn while the EMTs tried to figure out how to turn the oxygen bottle on. She died by the way but they put a lovely plaque up to commemorate it so it is all good. Not. Had that been my family member I would own the track by now because they would have been sued into oblivion.

I would think this rider could at least own a share of that track if she got a decent attorney. Her injuries were serious, and they made her prove her identity?

I can not believe they made her move PERIOD while waiting for help, what if she broke her back? Just awful.

What a crazy story, especially the part about going up to the gate to check her license!!!

I think the country is over-litigious these days, but in this case, I hope she sues the track for all she can get. Unbelievable!

It is a case where shock allowed her to keep moving, when she should have just lay there. That does not excuse the actions of the EMTs or Security.

Incredible stupidity.
