A conundrum - a bettor with both dead heat horses a single winner in a Pick 6?

Remington Park suspends wagering on their Sooner 6ix.

The situation occurred April 10 at Remington, largely a Quarter Horse card. TIF reported that the track determined that because the bettor had both horses in the dead heat on his ticket, it created two winning tickets. Jackpot wagers only pay out the full pot when there’s a single winner.

In this case, TIF reported that the bettor was the only winner because no one else had either dead-heat horse. The article suggested that the rules of the wager were not clearly defined in such situations.

One winner or two??

IMO, it’s a ridiculous dodge. Remington needs to man up and give the bettor his winnings.

This will all come down to some judge’s ruling on what constitutes a “ticket” and its relationship to a “wager.” The problem is two winning wagers exist, but they’re also contained on the same document (ie a “ticket” though in this case it was electronic.) I don’t think Remington is dodging at all, they’re just in a fix because of what the tote computer is telling them and how that relates to a document.

I suspect many tracks that offer a ‘pick 6’ carryover type of ticket will be watching what happens with this as they could find themselves in the exact same boat and perhaps adjusting the rules associated with the jackpot wager.

Dead heats don’t happen often true. But when this type of carryover ticket is carried over for many days, if you are a single ticket winner, you could be winning, or not, millions of $$.

I also don’t think it is just a case of Remington manning up and paying out.
