As I have just joined a hunt this year, I am trying to acquire the few pieces of proper attire that I did not already own- a proper stock tie and pin, a tweed ratcatcher, and dress boots. I had plans to put at least the tie, pin, and thrift-store find ratcatcher on my Xmas list. The dress boots will need to wait…
Anyway yesterday I was cleaning out an old jewelry box that has moved around with me many times over the years, never unpacked, just sitting there.
Lo and behold, I found a gold stock pin in the shape of a snaffle bit that I remember getting in my stocking as a 7 or 8yr old horse-crazy girl well onto 25 years ago. At the time I just loved it because it was horsey. I sure didn’t know it was a stock pin, and I doubt I ever used it. Eventually it found it’s way into that jewelry box and there it stayed for the next 20 years. when I unearthed it I just sat on the floor in my bedroom and remembered being a horse-crazy kid just happy to get a pin shaped like a snaffle bit in my stocking, or a Breyer horse to play with, or getting to pet a real live horse.
And now that pin has resurfaced exactly when I needed it. And it is all the more special to me for having loved it as a 7yr old and now it will serve it’s purpose with me out in the hunt field.
Just a nice story I thought I’d share.
