We went to a smaller breed show the other weekend where I did some line classes, driving classes and some under saddle classes with one of my ponies (Welsh and Sport Pony Classes). It poured part way through the day and the sand ring was literally half under water (luckily he is a CDE pony as well so doesn’t mind getting his feet wet!) but I did not want to take my nice leather/brass harness and good carriage through the muck, so they did a last minute change and we drove on the track there (limestone). It worked out even though it was high in weeds and a tad narrow, but I went all that way with my clean harness and carriage so thought, why not. Most people cancelled due to the rain so there was only 2 of us driving. But our under saddle classes were full of 15 ponies, so a decent turn out there.
At the breed show Jaguar was also presented with the Welsh Ambassador Award (for a half welsh) from the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Canada. He won it with his accomplishments and winnings in Pleasure and Combined Driving events in 2023. Only 10 are given across Canada and he was one of them. It will be proudly displayed in our barn.
We also had a localish to us Pleasure Driving show held by the ADS and Minta Winn (from the UK) was the dressage and cones judge and David Remley (from NY) was the Pleasure Show judge. This is held at a beautiful venue indoors, which is climate controlled. It was a hot weekend so we really enjoyed that! Warm up was in a separate indoor arena and then a quick walk into the huge climate controlled arena to show in.
Jaguar was a star for me and we ended up Champion Large Pony, Overall High Point Welsh Pony, Overall High Point Champion of the show and won the Concurs D’Elegance as well.
We have another fair this weekend with some driving and riding classes and then a quick break. I was planning on taking one of my hunter sales ponies to WEC Ohio at the end of this month, but I advertised him and sold him in 15 mins. So I thought why not take the driving pony to a hunter show ha ha! So I have a couple of weeks to get him over fences (he does jump once in a while, but I haven’t shown him in the hunters in over 10 years). It will be a fun and relaxing time at WEC and I can’t wait to check out the venue!
Here are a few pics from our last couple of shows (ribbon colours are reversed in Canada so red is first, blue is second, white is third, yellow is fourth etc):
