a good read on brain injuries and new helmet technologies
Cone head technology helmet is used in the Matrix Helmet by Devon Aire, in the USA, Dover saddler etc carries it. $139 I am thinking of getting one.

Amazing that all the bigger more expensive brands are not incorporating it, I read Devon Aire has exclusive rights to the Conehead tech for riding helmets but how could such a thing be possible? Are the other companies just cheap and figuring they’ll keep selling their lines without it as long as they can?

The MIPS sounds terrific. Hope some of the equestrian companies will introduce it instead of getting by with old models year after year only changing the design.
I bought one of those (Matrix). They have a new model out with the same technology that is a bit more streamlined.

I tried the Uvex Perfexxion today and really liked it, but I was surprised that it did not come down any further in the back. I also still want to see the new Devonaire Prism before I get a new helmet. Does anyone know if it is out yet? I am hoping one of the vendors at Rolex will have them
Thanks!

Has anyone tried the Matrix helmet yet? I have a very limited helmet selection out here as well but I need to step up the protection this year. I love my Ovation helmet but I definitely feel I need a bit more protection and considering how many times I’ve dropped the poor thing, it’s probably not a bad idea. Just wondering what helmets people have tried that are boasting new technology.

And honestly, have we found if a skull cap really offers more protection, or no?

JER, I think I read earlier this week that a blood test has been developed to identify a concussion and to monitor progress post-concussion. I believe that they quantify the tau protein in the circulation.

I’m sort of scared to have the test done on my blood!

What is the name of the new Devonaire helmet that has the conehead technology? They list Matrix on their website, but I couldn’t find anything else that has the sam technology.

Mt research only shows the matrix right now but I think now are in the works.

The 2nd helmet with the conehead technology is the Prism. It is a sleeker look. As of now, I don’t have an ETA. We are still trying to get decent preorders on it, so if you want it, ask your store to order it!
The matrix will be available in all black, starting this summer.
I personally did not care for the look of the Matrix, and some of my stores balked at its appearance, which when you look at what is on the market today, the matrix is pretty tame compared to some of the others. Then I tried it on and I loved it. I had never used the dial system before and this helmet fits me better than anything else I have worn. It is the only helmet I ride in now.
So bottom line is, you have to ask your retailer to carry the helmet. They need to know that their consumers are informed and want specific items.

Where is the Matrix on the Devon Air website? I only see the Spectrum

and when I google it the link takes me to the Caladesi helmet

OMG!

I’m SO dumb! I bought that helmet 2 weeks ago because: I liked the way it looked and fit

I had no idea it had new technology! I love it!

This is my blog. Scroll down for photos of the Prism and Matrix.

4Star Charles Owen?

Anyone have the 4 Star Charles Owen?
I want to replace an older Charles Owen Pro Skull Cap that I love.

LoriT: Love it.
If the Prism is shaped for an oval head and Devonaire gets the it on their website, I’ll pre-order my own asap.

Devonaire is totally on the right track with the technology but may need to ‘direct market’ this initially to get the word of mouth going. Also, the tech and marketing needs to be MUCH more front and center. The Matrix is still buried on page 3 of helmets. If you aren’t looking for it, you won’t find it.

Unfortunately and cynically, Silva Martin’s injury provides an opportunity here. The new technology reduces the G-forces on the brain, especially rotational G-forces. This is exactly what happened to her. Has anyone else questioned whether she would have had less injury with the new technology? Because I have and it has me looking hard at my current helmet tech.

Agree with synthesis - Matrix and Prism should be front and center in the helmet category on the Devon-Aire site.

The Prism looks very sweet.

I had a shamrock on mine. I thought the look was fine: [IMG]http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx78/CindyCRNA/MVHMarch152014_zps23dce795.jpg)

Excellent read, in fact I’m going to forward it to all of my horsey and MTB friends

Also, I was all excited about the new technology since I’m about to buy a new helmet and then I realized that they don’t come in my size :frowning: Not cool. :frowning:

So one more thought. I have always argued that equestrian helmets are for horses and bike helmets are for bikes because of the ASTM / SEI testing done to them. However, I wonder if I would have better head protection from a bike/ ski/ whatever helmet with a better fit and technology than some current equestrian specific helmets? Thoughts? I’m not really into finding out through trial and error

Really want to pre-order the Prism but I can’t find it anywhere… not even on Devon Aire’s site! Anyone know where to get it?

I believe only retailers can pre-order it. So, if you want one, write to Smartpak, Dover, or wherever you usually buy tack, etc. and tell them you’re interested in purchasing the Prism. If enough people ask for a product, it just might get stocked (and the chances are much lower if you don’t write to them).

EXACTLY! We are taking pre-orders from retailers for the Prism and hope to have it here this summer. You have to demand that stores carry the latest technology. They don’t think people want to buy it. Dover actually has dropped the Matrix from their lineup.
