I live in western Kentucky, about 30 minutes from Bluegrass Downs (I am not sure if they run any races there or not), but I was wondering what would be a good track to go to just to watch a good race, I don’t know the difference of a chaiming race from a stakes race? Thank you
I think Ellis Park is by you - Henderson, KY. Also Kentucky Downs (near Bowling Green) runs a 3 day meet that is fun - run over a big field and there are a few stakes. If you are close to Louisville then Churchill Downs.
Ellis doesn’t open until the summer though and KY Downs is usually September
Thanks keepingthelegend, for some reason with the roads Louisville, Bowling Green and Lexington are all about 2 and ahalf to 3 hours away. and Henderson is only about 90 minutes or so away.
Bluegrass Downs doesn’t have their own website, this is a close as you may come to a Bluegrass Downs website
It’s best to call for their simulcast schedule.
2-3 years back, both small Kentucky harness tracks (the other is Thunder Ridge Raceway) cut back on their dates.
They only race in warm weather and only for a few weeks each.
You might be able to get their 2011 race schedule off the Kentucky Racing Comm website.
AFAIK, both tracks offer full-card simulcasting year-around, although they may not be open seven-days.
All of Kentucky Horse racing is hoping for those race-replay-VLT machines to be allowed. They won’t offer the same revenue or success that a few others states get from regular VLT’s, however any subsidation for Kentucky Tracks is better than what exists.
