A horse I used to know---is there a way to learn more about her?

When I was a little kid my neighbors (former summer people) brought home their retired jumper, much to my insane joy, lol. I was such a horse crazy pest! I’m guessing between 1968—1972 ish…
I think the daughter trained w Harry DeLayer, as her Mom brought me along when she drove up the island to visit him on several occasions. And Aimee may have lived at his barn in St James, as their real home was near there.
(I even met Snowman, was allowed to pat him, and Mr DeLayer gave me one of his red ribbons!!)
Anyway, my neighbors were French, the daughter who rode was Danielle Fournier, and her horse was called Amie. I was around ten yo, there was a language barrier, and maybe i’m remembering this wrong, but her Mom told me she and Amie had won the 'junior olympics of jumping" at Madison Square Garden. I moved away in 1981 and lost touch. But am still curious all these years later! Anyone know a way to find the horse and rider info for such a competition?

might start with the Nation Horse Show organization at Kentucky Horse Park were the show moved in 2011

https://www.nhs.org/information/organization/history/

or subscribe to the New York Times then do a historical research of the past results as the Times printed all the show results

here is an example of a NYT search

or conversely perhaps search for the woman via Linked in and Facebook? If someone from my childhood barn contacted me I would be thrilled to talk about old times.

But the Garden horse show in the 60s was society and like clanter says, you might find results. Did they have a junior nations cup?

There are some Facebook groups dedicated to this kind of thing, I think l, but I’m not sure how active or useful they are at this point. The Chronicle used to publish results from most of the bigger shows up until pretty recently but I’m not sure if they’re digitized or searchable or if they offer that as a service. If she won a big class it’s likely there was an article about her as well.

I subscribe to the NYTimes and found an archived article dated 8/26/1963. In the results of a Kiwanis Club show in Queens, NY she won the Maclay and an Open Horsemanship class. No horse was listed in the results.

Edit-I found another mention of Danielle Fournier on 2/24/1964 at the Thomas School horse show in a hunter division and this time it mentioned Mlle Aimee as reserve champion.

WOW!!! That’s so neat, and so very nice of you! I loved that horse, she was my first exposure to a real horse, and I spent hours just watching her and dreaming about her.

I suggest editing the title of this post to include the woman’s name and the horse’s name. It will come up in web searches. Who knows… she, or one of her relatives doing family research, may find you.

Thanks, that’s a good idea, but I was really only curious about Amie, not her rider, who was a good 15 years older than I am. I was friendly with her mom and her niece, who was my age, and we found each other on FB years ago.

I suggest you join the Long Island and Horses - Way Back When Facebook group. It is an active group.

There’s also an ‘Equestrians from “back in the day”’ fb group that’s fairly active.
