Saturday was the culmination of my “bucket list” idea of riding a horse named Hugh Jackman in my first dressage show in 30+ years. COTH folks advised entering Intro C and Training level 1. Our Into 1 test was scored 60% with HJ’s highest mark being his “change rein working trot rising,” that earned us an 8.5! There were a few 5.5 marks --comments about “hands high, rider leaning forward, abrupt transition” – everything else was 6s and 7s. All comments were rider based --the judge said HJ was a “lovely horse,” “good mover,” obedient." We were cited for “good corners.”
And that’s, that.
Not sure I will continue with Dressage. If I do, I will restart next spring, n April --find an instructor, and take a few more lessons (I had 4 this year, and 5 in 1970). Hugh Jackman and I will both be a year older. No need to decide now --he can have some time off and I can think about it. Fox hunting starts in another month and I do so look forward to that. I need to start fitting up my fox hunters --I have two going out this season.
Let’s see if I can put on a picture of Hugh Jackman and me.
