As someone who deals with saddles a lot, I get questions like:
“Is this a fair price for a <insert brand here> saddle?”
“How much is my saddle worth”
Usually I just look at past sales, as well as sales from other places on the internet and come up with an average. But I’m lazy and that takes a while, so I automated it!
Here’s the result: https://www.tackhunter.com/news/how-much-is-my-saddle-worth
Now, I know there are quite a few saddle experts on here so any feedback from you guys would be great. This is just something i made for fun in my spare time, so i’d love to improve it however i can.
Heres a few things i’ve observed:
-
brands do matter with respect to selling price. You can definitely get a “not so fashionable” saddle that’s great quality for a fair price, but if you’re looking for / selling a brand that’s in-demand, the price will reflect that. basically: fashionable, economical, quality - pick 2.
-
Once again regarding demand, the same is true for sizes. Certain sizes are much more common than others. From an economical perspective, one might think that because it’s scarce means it should be more valuable. However, because of low-demand, it’s usually a buyers market.
-
Neglected saddles are pretty difficult to sell. That being said as long as your saddle isn’t incredibly old and is well taken care of, it should be able to fetch a fair price.
-
Knowing the brand, model, serial, and history of your saddle is always helpful in estimating price and reassuring to the buyer.
-
Saddles typically sell slower than the other tack and equipment we sell so patience is always helpful
