I hope someone is keeping a master list–there are an awful lot of (lovely) stallions double/triple posted.

Did we say Linsenhoff’s great Piaff, the Swedish stallion ?

Don’t worry about double listings, folks are in a hurry.

Lets just keep adding names of individual breeding stallions, live or deceased that have made it to CDI Grand Prix/Olympic competition. Perhaps someone will do the alpha list, or I will in a week from now. I 'll find checkers who will be able to confirm CDI participation, the older horses are more difficult to know of - can anyone say when the CDI competitions began ? k

Karin O - Boleem is aged. I have his USDF records. He did his first CDI in 1994 at Saratoga (I1), but CDI at GP in 95 and 96. Maybe that timeline helps?

This is the list so far alphabetized (I think it is complete; if not, sorry):

What a great list! What a great idea for a list! I hope someone else will add back in the breeding info and at some point we’ll have a master list and it can join the Holy Threads of COTH.

I was wrong about Wild Dance. He only competed PSG I believe (but he is a stallion, not a gelding)
Rheirattack is a Canadian Sport Horse stallion, approved for breeding with GOV. He has definitely competed at CDI level, as I remember he showed up on the WBFSH rankings. Here is some more info on him. It mentions him placing second in a CDI Grand Prix Special. http://www.oldenburghorse.com/book/rheirattack.pdf

I don’t think that Weltmeyer should be on that list. I 'm pretty sure he never competed.
Breitling W should definitely be added though.

OK, I removed Weltmeyer and added Breitling W…and his son, Berkeley W

Zorn - SWB by Chagall. Short listed for the Olympic Team GP with rider Dennis Callin

Oakie you heathen!!! Seriously, I’m actually pretty upset that you have dismissed the Trakehners out of hand. Each and every one of them deserves to be on this list. Many have competed at the World Cup, World Championships and at the Olympics. Many of them are far more qualified to be on an elite list of dressage stallions than the better known names that have bigger marketing machines behind them.

Since so many people have little knowledge of Trakehners here’s more information about their achievements. If I were to include in this list stallions registered by other studbooks that are by Trakehner stallions (such as Totilas (Gribaldi) and Blue Hors Matine (Silvermoon)) or out of Trakehner mares it would go on for pages. Don’t dismiss the Trakehner sires. Look carefully, there are many that are outstanding and they mix well with the blood from other studbooks.

Fabian (Donauwind/Maharadscha)
Reiner Klimke’s mount. Competed international GP. Also happens to be 3/4 brother to Olympic GOLD medal winning showjumper Abdullah.

Peron TSF (Mahagoni/Cocktail)
Ridden by Michele Gibson. Won team BRONZE medal at the Olympics.

Partout (Arogno/Donauwind)
SEE TR listings Ridden by Anky and winner of World Cup.

Biotop (Blesk/Hockey)
Another of Reiner Klimke’s horses. Won several World Cup qualifiers.

EH Heuriger (Herzbube/Kurfurst)
Proclaimed “World Dressage Sire” in 1994 and won team SILVER medal at the World Games finishing 4th individually.

Glanzlicht (Ordensglanz/ Consul) Winning at Grand Prix level with scores of 70% plus.

Latimer (Saint Cloud/Caprimond)
Won the Budeschampionat with the higest score ever given. Although I think he may not have competed above Inter 1 as he was sold to a young rider.

Leonidas (Condus/Siegbert)
Bred and ridden by Hilda Gurney and was USDF All Breeds Champion in 2002.

Pepel (Pilgrim/Creon)
Got a SILVER MEDAL at the Olympics in the individual competition.

EH Munchhausen (Hohenstein/Konigstein)
Second in the 6yo World Young Horse Dressage championships before competeing with Fie Skarsoe on the Danish team.

EH Gribaldi (Kostolany/Ibikus)
Ridden by Edward Gal at many World Cups and European championships. For many years the most popular sire in Holland covering over 400 mares a season. Sire of Painted Black, grandsire of Hotline and of course the new wonderhorse Totilas. How could you leave him out Oakie!!!

EH Monteverdi (Partout/Matador)
Another stallion ridden by Fie Skarsoe. Won his first International Grand Prix at the tender age of 9 after having a year off due to colic surgery.

EH Ravel (Mahagoni/Donauwind)
Competed to GP by Kathrin Poll.

Kronjuwel (Matador/Mazagran)
Individual SILVER and TEAM GOLD medal winner at the Pan-Am games.

EH Van Deyk (Patricius xx/Ibikus)
Many placings and wins at GP in Germany. He is also the sire of Kaiserdom and Kaiserkult, Bundeschampionat winners yet he was only covering 5-10 mares a year!!! He is also the sire of Polarion, another approved Trakehner sire who himself competed up to Grand Prix with Laura Bechtolsteiner. AND Polarion is the sire of Grafenstolz, approved Trakehner sire and the ONLY HORSE EVER TO QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS OF DRESSAGE,SHOWJUMPING AND EVENTING AT THE BUNDESCHAMPIONAT IN A SINGLE YEAR. He won the Eventing final with a score of 96%!!! and went on to compete at **** eventing. Grafenstolz was considered a certainty for the German eventing team for the 2008 Olympics before he had to take time out due to injury. This amazing stallion is currently being retrained as a dressage horse.

Kaiserkult and Kasierdom (EH Van Deyk/Gajus)
Both winners of the 6yo Bundeschampionat in successive years and Kaiserkult is currently competeing at places like Verden at GP.

Schwadroneur (Arogno/Ibikus)
GP dressage stallion and one of the most popular sires in Denmark. He has at least 4 offspring competing at international Grand Prix.

Solero (Hyllos/Polargeist)
Won the Grand Prix Freestyle at Aachen and the world cup qualifier at Frankfurt.

Lions-Club (Ferrum/Matador)
Trained and shown up to Grand Prix in Germany by his amateur owner Karin Leissing.

Acartenango (Pogremok/Eskadron)
Competed at the 2000 OLYMPICS and 2002 WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES.

Hailo (Anduc/Thor)
Stationed in the US, competed at GP level and given ATA HOY at GP level.

Charly Chaplin (Mackensen/Neuquen)
Elite stallion, winner at GP level.

Insterburg (Hohenstein/Giorgio Armani)
Recently started at GP with good wins and placings including last week at Verden. http://www.eurodressage.com/news/breeding/trakehner/2008/bundesturnier.html

Perechlest (Hockey/Papirus)
One of the most successful stallions ever at Grand Prix level with 71 WINS at International Big Tour level and 8 SUCCESSIVE WINS AT GRAND PRIX. Just because you may not have heard of a stallion does not mean he isn’t outstanding. I’ve always believed that the best stallions in the world are not the same as the most famous stallions in the world. And to show the versatility of this stallion’s bloodlines his full brother is a very successful international SHOWJUMPER.

King Arthur (Buddenbrock/Consul)
Ridden by Petra Wilm he has placings and wins at Grand Prix all over Europe. I expect this stallion to become a big name in the next couple of years.

Excellent Post Stolen Silver. And just a small fact to go along with your statistics, There are more Trakehner Stallions competting in Grand Prix Dressage in Europe, than stallions of any other breed. Thats very impressive when you consider that the Trakehner studbook is very small compared to all the other Warmblood breeds out there.

Thankyou Shawnda. I didn’t know that there were more Trakehner stallions at GP than any other studbook but I’m not surprised. There are a LOT of them out there competing. The more I look into Trakehners the more impressed I become.

I love Trakehners in the same way I love all horses and especially love the athletes.

But as I said–many of the Trakehners in the ‘Trakehner list’ were double-listed.

And everyone is free to add to the list!!!

Inpekteur should be removed because he never did Grandprix.

Are we just including stallions that competed at the CDI level? Or any stallion that has competed in a local GP?

Stolensilver - what about Caprimond? I know he showed GP (and did so with a young rider) until he was 19, but I am not sure if he ever competed in CDIs.
