AAA road assistance

Be warned AAA users.
I just tried to cancel my AAA so I could join US Rider. They will not cancel and prorate the 11 months that I have left on my membership. What a crappy company.

Never again will I use them. And I sure won’t recommend them to anyone.
They had the nerve to argue with DH about why we wanted to cancel.:mad::mad::mad::

Hmm.

Are they obligated to prorate? I know car insurance companies are, but I don’t know if AAA counts as that.

ETA - I don’t actually know if car insurance companies are obligated, but my previous two have been willing when I have found cheaper coverage.

Why did you expect them to pro-rate your subscription? You purchased a 12 month subscription, right?

I adore my AAA membership. The peace of mind is more than worth the membership fee & I love having them when I do something brain-missing like leave a light on all night. My mom pays for my AAA membership & EZ-Pass for Christmas every year  - we’re a very practical family.

I kind of look at buying a 12 month membership just like buying anything else. Why would they pro-rate it if you decide later on you do not want it anymore?

AAA is not right for everyone but I totally do not see them not being willing to pro-rate a return to you as a reason to bad mouth them.

Love AAA. Would not expect them to pro-rate either.

You paid for 12 months. I would not expect a refund if I cancelled either.

For what it’s worth, I have had excellent experiences with AAA including two pretty long distance tow jobs.

Glad you let me know that since re-up is coming soon and I wanted US Rider when we move (April).

So guess I won’t re-up - will just sign-up for US Rider.

Add me to the “love AAA” list. I would not expect them to prorate if I decided to cancel. And really, AAA membership is pretty cheap. You’re getting pretty bent out of shape about very little money.

I’ve only had to use them twice and both times the service was excellent. That’s no help to you, I know.

You buy a year’s service once a year. You aren’t buying monthly service a year at a time. Just because you won’t be using it doesn’t mean they should refund your money.

I love AAA - they are fast, they come out where ever when ever, and for stupid stuff and to your driveway, and save your butt. So I think I’m not an agree-er with the OP on this one.

I have both. For a car AAA is superior. They also offer several valuable travel services.

AAA did me badly wrong a few years back and left me parked at a gas station in KY. In spite of the fact that I was carrying their RVPlus coverage their local affiliate had nothing to pull my truck/trailer combo (even after I unloaded the horses). They were sorry about that but that’s the way it was. :frowning:

They did give me a refund on the coverage and dropped me to regular auto. I still have that.

I’ve yet to have to use USRider away from home (the one local call I had went quite well).

When you buy a year of service there is usually no pro-ration unless the contracts says there is.

AAA RV Plus coverage does not include horse trailers, period.

When I purchased the RVPlus coverage (in 2006, IIRC) I specifically asked if it covered horse trailers with an LQ. I was informed that they would provide service if the trailer empty but not if it were carrying any horses. When they left me by the side of the road a Knoxville AAA VP acknowledged that they did provide that coverage when I purchased the and that the failure to provide the service had nothing to do with the fact that it was a horse trailer. The failure was purely the failure of the local AAA organization in KY. That’s why I got the refund.

They refunded me the RVPlus fees which I considered a good faith effort on their part. Based upon that I’ve continued to do business with them.

FWIW, I stopped getting AAA when I switched to USRider at least four years ago, and I still get huge renewal packets from AAA at least twice a year. Sigh.

Me too! I was sitting on the side of I-75 last night with a blown tire in the pouring rain. Forty-five minutes later I was on my way and dry as a bone.

Def an AAA fan! They have towed my (little!) truck many times! When I ran out of gas, when I ran out of gas again, when I blew the engine, when the battery failed, when I hydroplaned and shredded a tire on the curb, etc. While not as “prompt” as I would like, I can live with it just knowing that they will come and get me when I need them to. I just wish they would come get you when you’re broken down in the dirt somewhere (we like our offroad trucks!), but it’s not hard to get someone to pull you out to a paved road, so it’s not a huge deal.

US Rider was a no show when I needed them. My friend had AAA so we ended up using them. I will say that US Rider customer service did follow up with me.

Question for AAA members: If you are in a place where a AAA tow would be several hours away, can you get local service and be reimbursed by AAA?

Yes it does IF the horse trailer has “living quarters”- a toilet and water. I have a camp potty and portable water in my GN dressing room. At the time AAA RV Plus hauled my 2 horse slant load trailer it too had those things because we were sleeping in it and so it was serviced.

As for the horses, that does depend on the area. Where I broke down on the Interstate the wrecker guy was willing to haul the horse back to the shop and said I could put my horse in a pen 1/2 block away from the shop. I love Kansas!!!

AAA is very good but they do not look after horses like US riders does. US riders does include roadside assistance to you even without a trailer behind you! I have used it a couple of times and all good!
