Abetta Trinity--rider fit?

Small? Large?

If I normally take a 15 1/2 western (ideally) and swim in a 16" Crates, but a 15" Royal King was a wee too tight…

Horses are stupid-short coupled, so I usually err on the side of my comfort vs. theirs… is there much of a bar/skirt length difference between the 15 & 16?

Thanks.

What does that mean??? Horses are stupid???

no, they’re actually quite witty…

Sorry, I forget this is a different forum (I’m usually referring to them as beyond wide = ‘stupid-wide’ on the stressaghe forum) and ridiculously beyond short coupled to me = stupid-short coupled

I can use a common western blanket meant to be doubled as a QUARTER SHEET on the stallion

While it is desireable for some improvement traits… it’s mighty hard to fit a square skirted saddle. :uhoh:

? Talk about the “S” word, sorry but the difference between a Crates and a Royal King. That is like comparing a Yugo and a BMW.

Use your comfort measurement from how a Crates fits, a Royal King is not even from the same planet.

The average difference in bar length is 3/4" on Semi-QH and 1" on a QH Bar

.

Royal Kings are crap as was noted above. Go with the figure on the Crates to determine seat size.

Not sure it actually was Royal King… was a fairly common brand of cordura & leather combo saddle. Endurance model, wide tree, flex panels etc. etc. Pony loffed it, my right leg would go numb about 2 minutes into the ride.

But you guys are saying if I was swimming in the Crates then go a size down in Abetta?
Man, I miss that Crates. Saddle of a lifetime. I did dressage in it often. But I lost weight, and the back of the skirts actually caught Himself in the points of his hips–he could NOT canter in it. :stuck_out_tongue: But it went to a ‘good home’ and someone I know loves it and appreciates it’s impeccable balance and fit.

if you swim in a 16" Crates with a low cantle, the 15" Abetta which has a steeper cantle might well be exactly what you need.

The bars are going to be the same length regardless of seat length in a 15 vs 16 I betcha. Check with your retailer, though. Skirt length, too- just measure it in the store or ask online retailer to do so.

One thing about the Trinity is that the seat is very padded, so it might be worth going with the larger to make sure you have enough room.

I actually have a 17" Trinity, I can measure the skirt/bar length for you in a couple of days (out of town for work) if you’d like.

yes, that is what I was wondering–is the fit more snug due to the padding?

Leather, t’would be appreciated. I’ll let you know if I get an answer elsewhere. Still shopping, but the Trinity seems to be the ticket so far…

Is this the Abetta Trinity? I bought an Abetta last August. I’m from the English world so don’t really know the names of the various Abettas?! Ihad to worry about a saddle hitting my horse in the hips as well. This saddle fits really well. Unfortunately it fits the horse best with OUT a pad. So I’ll have to figure out the best cleaning of the “under belly.”

As far as fitting me, it does have a lot of padding. I am in a 17 inch Abetta. My English saddle was a 19 inch. When I was sitting in saddles at the tack store, 17 inch western saddles seemed bigger in the seat and I did feel like I was swimming. The Abetta with all the padding is a much tighter feel even though it is the same size as the 17 inch westerns I tried.

I would definitely get this fit at a tack store because you sit a wee bit differently in it than your average western saddle. Because of the padding, it pitches you a wee bit forward. I’m good with it as it sort of makes me sit like I’m in a dressage saddle however if I add a seat saver (not that you even need it), it pitches you more forward. I also have the tack store come to our barn and fit the horse as well. Again, this saddle fits my horse so perfectly, it’s the best without a pad.

I’m still working on getting the whole western knot thing but now I hook it into the cinch metal buckle thing and that works well. Good luck and let us know if you get it.

So I measured my 17" Trinity. The bars seem to be about 23", and the total length of the skirt from underneath is 26.5"

Here’s a picture of it on my 14.1 hand Paso Fino who has a pretty short back.

Leather, thank you! That helps MUCH!
