Abler Blue Pop Rocks - Abprazole, Ulcers - Did it work?

Has anybody had chronic ulcer horses that used Ablers Abprazole or Abprazole Plus with good success?

I just ordered the AB plus – my senior horse is retired, and on previcox daily for DSLD related pain, which in turn causes his ulcers to come back every few months.

We are wrapping up another 30 day treatment of omeprazole (generic from the vet, paste, works WONDERS, cheaper than GG or UG, but still to expensive for long term).

Wondering if anybody has had chronic ulcer horses, used this product, and been ok. I’m worried we wont get the results we need.

If you really want to know if it works, scope him.

I’m asking if it has recently worked for others with chronic ulcers. I don’t want him to relapse.

It worked for our TB mare. I do know there has been some discussions about quality/consistency in the daily dose. I just know the mare didn’t seem to get the ulcers back and my vet felt they were working.

Over the years I have used Abler pop rocks, Gastrogard, and Horse Prerace omeprazole somewhat interchangeably (meaning the pop rocks and prerace omep seem to act identically - on my horse - as Gastrogard). I haven’t ever noticed a difference between those three products. I haven’t ordered the pop rocks in a few years, but I do get tubes of omeprazole prior to shows and see the same positive difference in my horse as I do when I buy Gastrogard.

I’m a fan of the Abler product. Have used it for years.

That is GREAT to hear as we have had good success using generic omep paste from vet. Still to costly for long term which is why I’m looking at abler.

This may be the single most talked about topic on this message board in the past … oh … two years?

Do a search for “blue pop rocks” or just “pop rocks” and you’ll turn up a plethora of discussion.

I just got my horse back from 30 days of refresher training during which we kept her on a maintenance dose of Horse Prerace. I just brought her home this weekend and she is good as gold. She is super prone to ulcers and I generally have to treat her once or twice a year. I am getting better at managing her ulcers but was still shocked that the maintenance dose did the trick.

I prefer ordering the prerace because they use paypal and the shipping is super quick. I have also used the abler paste with good results, I just hate the delay in receiving it.

I’ve used pop rocks with good results. Tried the whole pills the last time I treated and they didn’t seem to be as effective. Both Abler products.

Always had good success both Abler and prerace.

Curious, since I see a few comments on how long it takes to get the pop rocks - is their shipping that slow?

I’ve ordered from Abler for years now, and never paid for the expedited shipping. It takes about 10 days, which I don’t think is unreasonable.

OK, that seems reasonable to me too! I was envisioning several weeks. I just put in an order, and was hoping they’d be here within 2 weeks or so!

Then you shouldn’t be disappointed. LOL.
Amazon has completely changed our view of what’s reasonable.

There shipping is generally not that bad but the one time I really needed it, it got lost and I never even got the shipment. They had to ultimately do a whole new shipment. Their customer service was super nice and helpful but it still took time.

That was when I tried Horse Prerace and have just continued using it afterwards. Horse Prerace makes it to my doorstep in 2 to 3 days. Additionally, My super picky mare will pick the poprocks out of her feed with or without oil so I prefer paste. All things being relatively equal, I stick with the Prerace.

My 27 year old TB goes through periods where he is picking at his grain for no apparent reason. If it lasts more than a week or two I put him on the pop rocks and he starts eating by the next day usually. I dose him for three days until he is cleaning up everything then I put it in his tub with his feed. I have never scoped so can’t say for sure he has ulcers and they heal them but it has gotten him back on his feed every single time.
