? about printing my health certificate for out of state travel

I just printed off my health certificate. I only have a black laser printer. This is a silly question I suppose but do I have to get it printed off in color since the horse’s photo is on it? Yes, I feel silly for asking.

no

Interesting question, I’ve never had the option of printing off my own, I get the copies from the vet. Maybe we’re just low tech in these parts. But it does have to be within the specified time frame for where you are traveling, usually 30 days around here.

Sounds like you are printing a scan of Coggins, not a health certificate. Health certificate are on NCR paper and contain very specific information about where the horse is going and when. My vet issue them from a pad and keeps the lower copy for his records.

I was thinking the same Ironwood. As to the coggins, I have never had a problem with a black and white copy. My vet Emails me a digital copy so I can always pull up the color copy on my smartphone. Gone are the days of having to get your vet to fax a copy somewhere because you or your daughter’s friends forgot/misplaced/ brought an old the coggins!

When I was charged with reviewing health papers at shows we could not accept a photo copy.

We could accept a Faxed copy from the vet or the original only of the Coggins reports.

The reason a faxed copy is valid goes back to the days of telegraphs when telegraphic messages as electronic signatures were validated by the New Hampshire Supreme Court in 1869

No, this is the health certificate for out of state travel (but yes, I printed off my coggins too). Must be something new. Who knew I’d be cutting edge LOL!

I got a digital health certificate last year, just like the new digital coggins tests. I almost always print my coggins out in black & white, and probably did the same with the health certificate. Considering the “old” style is hand written on copy paper, I really don’t think the color photo makes a difference. As long as the horse’s name on the certificate matches the name on the coggins, you should be okay. You could also carry a digital copy of the certificate on your phone or computer that you can show them if anyone questions it.

I think you would do well to check with the states where you’ll be traveling, then.

The confusion is in the word “original” `` digital has re-defined "original "

My confusion in this Coggins / Health Certificate was due to my definition of the word  “original”

as in ONE and only ONE * ORIGINAL

This was clarified/ re-defined by my KY vet stating that with the digital medical papers

one can print off more than one ‘original’ …( for shows or vanning company ) from one’s computer

but one has to send or present that digital ‘original’ …

  • a copy /xerox copy of the digital original or a fax will not be excepted

it’s about as clear as MUD !

SO

I will just follow the vet’s directions and hope to hell the vanning company accepts the second ‘original’ like they said they would :lol::winkgrin:
