Abrikos

Recently came across this stallion and I’m really intrigued by him. The breeding is interesting, being mainly a combination of Akhal-Teke and Trakehner. Looks like he has GOV and RPSI approvals pending; if this is true, I am definitely considering him. I especially love that he had a long, consistent Grand Prix career until the age of 19 and was still doing FEI juniors until at least the age of 21! Now that is hardiness for you!

I had not heard of him until recently. Has anyone seen him in person/ have any foals by him? Presumably his extensive performance career has limited his breeding, but I’d love some insight on him.

Abrikos is a very interesting stallion.Contact Pat Deasy at www.silveroakflorida.com. She has a russian mare who is bred to him for a Spring foal and knows a lot about him. Pat competes at Intermediaire on a 23 year old Orlov-Rostopchin gelding who is sound and full of vim and vigor.

I have seen him in person. He’s definitely handsome and seems like a good size for most riders - not huge, not heavy but big enough with good bone… very “sporty” looking with a beautiful head.

You should probably confirm with Emily in the Canadian office, but I am pretty sure Abrikos is approved by OHBS/GOV. I believe he was inspected last year, and he is in the 2013 stallion book.

I wonder if Kyzteke knows anything about him? Didn’t she breed Tekes for a while?

I love how clean-legged he is even at 19… A lot of people here love the A/Absent line…

Abrikos’ dam is a full sibling to my horse Renoir’s sire Barin. Barin was a member of the USSR’s Olympic Dressage Team at Seoul. Renoir is 23, sound and clean legged. He has the most amazing range of motion in his joints. He is light, sensitive and very willing. I bought an Orlov Rostopchin mare by Izar and am hoping to get a foal with similar qualities. I believe my mare is the first one to be bred to Abrikos. If all goes well I should have a foal early in April.
