I wonder if its less that they build up a tolerance, but that they’ve connected the dots and are amped up at the delivery of the ace because they know something stressful is coming soon, reducing the effectiveness??

Yeah, that’s an interesting thought. They’re not dumb.

Forever ago, I had a horse on stall rest who was not a “stall rest” horse. The vets advised giving him ace every day.

He LOVED it. He’d hold out his neck for the injection. He was also a cribber
I think he really just liked the high!

But yeah, a horse consistently drugged for some circumstance they really don’t like could totally connect the dots in the same way, with the opposite effect.
