What I have comes from a compounding pharamcy through my vet. It is sort of kind of “generic adeqan” but is chemically different so isn’t exactly a generic. Its use in horses is off label. My vet suggested it.
I have been using this for 10+ years - I use the 200mg/ml. When I started - I gave a 10ml shot every other day for three times and then a 10ml shot once a week - which I am still doing - 3 of my horses are on it - one broke a front leg several years ago (I trail ride on him) - 1 is an old arthritic retired rope horse and the 3rd is my stud that has pretty severe ring-bone.
If any posters in this trhead are still using this product, can you report if you are still happy with it. My mare is now on it and she has had four injections. I cannot say that I can tell a difference. Maybe it is too soon to draw a conclusion. Digging around I found this:

Assuming I understood this abstract, the study found that Acetyl-D-Glucosamine was not as effective as Adequan. If I misread the abstract, please correct me.
Is Acetyl-D-Glucosamine a generic version of Adequan?
Thanks in advance.
No, there is no generic Adequan. Acetyl-D-Glucosamine is well… just glucosamine.
Have you tried Pentosan? If you search this forum for Adequan, Pentosan, glucosamine etc… you find lots of info. They each work in a different way so it really depends on what the horse needs. For instance, Pentosan works just as well if not better than Adequan for my gelding with hock arthritis, but I use it conjunction with once yearly joint injections.
Thank you, BoyleHeightsKid. Another boarder also suggested Pentosan. I need to get the vet back out and discuss this with her. I use an equine practice with several vets. The vet who came out and prescribed the Acetyl-D-Glucosamine was basically the “back up” even though I had an appointment with a different vet.
I really depends on what the horse needs and their individual physiology. What works for one horse may not work for another. For instance MSM might really help IF the problem is inflammation. It just really depends. Some people see results with a good feed through supplement. I have not, so that makes me skeptical of feed throughs. It just depends on the horse.
