ADA--anyone working/volunteering have contact info?

I am here with a disabled lady. We are having a HELL of a time getting her around.

Tonight we went from the Big Barn to what used to be a handicap shuttle pickup at the corner of the Equine Village (by Tommy Turvey, overlooking the big ring) the handicap sign was no longer there on the bench or tent… we waited there for awhile, didn’t see a single WEG shuttle–lots of other golf carts, but no blue shirts even, not to mention blue sticker golf carts.

We ended up walking and DID NOT SEE a single cart from EV to the front gate. We then were unable to get one from the front gate to the bus. My person was really in pain, and really, really stressing.

She only figured out the bus to the gate thing this morning.

It is VERY hard to figure out, and obviously we had major issues tonight. Usually I walk and she waits at the other end for me.

The thing is, we can’t find anyone who KNOWS anything. Tempers are getting short. We tried to ask a lady tonight who was driving a handicap shuttle where we could get info. She didn’t know, and commented that she was supposed to be off duty a half hour earlier.

Our performance tonight was 1730 and by the time the horse was put up etc., the EV was pretty much shut down. Tomorrow night we’re even later, at 1800, and I would love to know how to get her from the EV to the bus, probably at least 1930… :uhoh:

Call the ADA at 800 - 514 - 0301 and lodge a complaint.
That’s the only way you’ll get some help.

well, it took us three days, but we found out there was a shuttle from bus drop off to the gate…

The thing is, I think there might be services, but we can’t FIND them.

I saw a lot more para riders come in yest’dy. I wonder if there will be more help as they come in?

We were originally told no golf carts for vendors… we see a lot of vendors with golf carts, and would’ve done that if we thought we could have.

She has a mobility scooter, but the busses to WEG Staff parking can’t accomodate it unless we break it down.

Up by the entrance by the campgrounds, there appeared to be golf carts for rent. I did not stop and check it out, so I don’t know for sure but you might want to wander up that way and see.

My friend who is also handicapped has suggested that you go to information/customer service tent. She does not know what WEG is required to offer, but would like to help you all if she can. She works on the grounds, so she has not faced any of the issues of getting around outside, but is pretty well versed in the ADA laws.

Yep. Devers has moved their golf cart rental to the KHP entrance from the campground.

I surely do hope that you can get this resolved.

I have seen some shuttles/carts with drivers that are specifically for the disabled and taking them about. There’s some sort of gathering place right near where the shuttle buses are, but other than that I’m not sure how you would summon one. I’d ask one of the volunteers in gold shirts - they’re security. They probably know something about who to ask.

Thank you all for the ideas and suggestions. We’re working on it!

Tonight will not be a problem as there is the Freestyle. There’ll be a huge line, but at least the shuttles will BE THERE at the stadium to the gate.

I will say, as a rule, when they are getting enough complaints about something, they are really trying their best to fix it. I know that two individuals really, really came through for us yesterday. Rock on you guys!!
