Any opinions/experiences with these trailers? I’m looking at either a new Adams BP (hybrid), or a '99 Equiquest GN, but don’t have any experience with either.
Adams owners - do you have a problem with the paintjob on your steel trailers? I bought an Adam gooseneck stock trailer in May and paint is chipping off in a bunch of places, near one fender it actually came off in a big strip. I don’t know if this is typical or if I should talk to the factory about it.
I know steel rusts but I didn’t think I’d have to deal with touching up the paint within one month of owning it.
Meshach - the problem I had was specific to a water problem. The ramp was repainted due to the specific rusting. The rest of the trailer is fine.
I would definately talk to your dealer or the company. They have a one year warranty and a trailer that is two months old should not have the problem you are describing, as long as it is not related to typical road use.
Hey JB, what happened with the used Merhow you were looking at?
JB, are you looking at “MY EQUIQUEST”? Is it in Raleigh?
I saw it on the internet and had photos emailed. OMG, it is to die for. My trainer had one and said they were the best. And she owns a Keiffer Built now. Long story on why she doesn’t still have the Equiquest, divorce, ya da ya da.
If anyone besides ME should own it I guess it should be YOU. I can’t figure a logical way to get it out West. I have had no luck finding any info on Equiquest as a manufacturer to get more info for a West Coast outlet even.
Oh yeah and another reason it isn’t headed west, still working on a) bigger truck and b) MORE MONEY.
Email me if you want. And let me know what you decide.

it could be “your” Equiquest! It is nice, isn’t it? I just don’t know anything about them. Glad to hear your trainer loved hers!
I think nobody else has an answer either. I will say that one of the boarders at our barn has an Adam and I am neither overly impressed nor completely put off by it. Big help, huh?
I saw the Equiquest trailer advertised and the pictures left me with exactly the same feeling as above.
But I do have a suggestion. Go to www.horsetrailers-online.com and pose that question to Tom Scheve. He has been known to respond to direct comparison questions before even if it wasn’t a question about Equispirit or Hawk. Some of the others may chime in as well. You just have to ignore the other dealers who will tell you to buy their brand instead. I don’t think a search will turn up much because I have searched on Adam before. Had never heard of Equiquest before I saw that ad.
You DO have The Book, don’t you? If not, pick one up at your local tack store before venturing out to look in person. Even with 30+ years experience, I learned something and it was something I would never have thought of.
I posted a reply to you last night - where’d it go? Anyway, the Merhow I was looking at didn’t have a dressing room, which I really want. I’ve seen just a few other used M’s, but they’ve all had mangers, which I do NOT want!
of COURSE I have The Book! Read it cover to cover, and a few sections twice. I’ll see what ol’ Tom has to say, thanks!
I have an Adam 2 horse BP stock, and I love it! I know a ton of people who have them and I’ve never heard one bad complaint. I’m hoping to get a 2 horse slant goose neck in a few years…
I have a Adams 2 horse BP (steel) which I ordered extra tall (7’6") for my 17H beast. No dressing room. It is two years old as we speak.
That said, my opinion is that for the money, you can’t get a better deal. Hubby and I looked at other basic models (steel, no dressing room, BP 2 horse) and we found the workmanship of the Adam to be the best. We remember looking over another brand and actually seeing the sky through the seams in the ceiling. The dealer’s answer was “what do you expect for the cheap model?” Excuse me, but if I am dropping close to five grand for a trailer, I DON’T expect to see blue sky through the ceiling before we buy the thing!
When I did have a problem in the first year (rusting on the ramp due to water leaking under the ramp mat), the company completely repaired the problem and repainted the ramp, no questions asked.
I have looked at the newer models with aluminuim skins and dressing rooms, and again comparably speaking, find them to be a bargain.
