We have a 3 yr old female (spayed) JRT. Someone told me we should get a male next because there can be aggression issues with two females.
Any truth to this?
Next obvious question is…are we nuts??? Probably so.

Very much truth!!!
Yes, you’re nuts. We all are in our own way. I would only get another if it was male, neutered, and you have a plan for rehoming if the dogs don’t get along.
Truth. Go with opposite sex. Also pick personality to blend in.
Thanks all!!
YES JRT’s are dog aggressive. the Male/female situation is less likely to create friction. Mine still had a few knock-down-drag out fights. Hubby got his finger shredded many years ago when he tried to break them up.
We are looking at a puppy so they may get along better vs. another adult.
I had 3 JRT’s and Two pitty crosses all live together.
The JRTs were 1 female, 2 males. Both pitties female. All spayed/neutered.
The head honcho was female JRT. No one messed with her. She got along stellar with one male JRT, and would sometimes scrap with the other male (but nothing serious). Pitties were smart and stayed away from the jacks, they ruled the roost.
I agree go for an opposite sex. Mine all were great, but they were also raised as terriers, not “small fluffy dogs” so knew their boundaries.

Of the clan, one pitty and one male JRT are left. 14 and 15. The newest addition is a miniature poodle.
Just introduce them off the property, on neutral territory (a suggestion I ignored with my two adult Min. Schnauzers, but it was love at first sight so my goof was OK in the end). However, from day one I made it clear to my new boy that my older girl was the first dog, and he accepted it. However, when I put her down I thought he’d miss her, or be upset, but since he moved up in life he seemed OK with everything. I did have an older spayed female Lab, and she didn’t like visiting Lab puppy that was staying for a few hours, and I was surprised at that with her. I think a lot depends on the individual animal, and if you have a plan in case things don’t work out.
My vet bought my JRT’s only daughter as a 7 week old puppy. He had an older female JRT as well as a few other dogs. As soon as Oska (long story, lol) became mature, the older female tried to kill her so she had to be rehomed.
Definitely male and certainly neutered.
