Adding padding to trailer?

I’ve had this 4 horse slant for over 20 years and while I hate it, it’s been good to me. It has no padding in the horse compartment. There is the thick rubber lining on the butt wall, but no padding to prevent rubbing. This has never crossed my mind as much of an issue. One or two would occasionally get rub spots on very long road trips, but those are few and far between. Just this past week, I hauled my favorite old mare and her two recipients an hour to the repro clinic. When I took the mares off the trailer, the old mare and one recip (both are excellent haulers) came off with large raw rub spots on their butts; one on the back of a buttock, one on the side of her hip where she was leaning on the panel. There are a couple cuts on their hind legs, so I don’t know what happened; maybe the started kicking at each other, one fell down for a short time, I have no idea (I’m highly motivated to install cameras now).

So in a bit of a knee jerk reaction, I’ve decided to add padding to the panels, front wall, and butt wall. I have found the padding and hardware. https://www.etrailer.com/Enclosed-Trailer-Parts/Redline/HTP60BK.html It calls for 3/4 inch sheet metal screws.

Has anyone done this? Yes, it is straight forward. But I figured I would ask before I go and start punching holes in my trailer.

We made our own, after what I purchased online turned out flimsy. Use thin OSB cut however wide/long you want it. Use plenty of batting & buy quality vinyl, staple it and screw it down with washers. Good luck.
