Adequan: a day late or a day early?

Some unexpected work travel means that I will be out of town on the day my horse should be getting his 5th adequan shot.

I could however, easily give it either the day before or the day after. Either way, I would adjust the remaining shots to be 4 days after. I’ve looked on the manufacturer’s website and can’t find any information on what option would be best. So, I wanted to see what others think?

My understanding is that the spacing is such because the medicine stays in the joint for up to 4 days, which makes me think that a day early might be better since it would just create more overlap, but not leave a gap. But, I’m not sure!

If it were me, I’d go a day early.

Honestly, I don’t think it matters at all. I have two horses on Pentosan, and they are dosed monthly, but I don’t sweat a day early or a day late, and it hasn’t made any difference. Back when I used Adequan it was the same, the dates are guidelines, more than they’re rules.

I don’t think it matters either.

I know way too many people who forget on the right day and do it the next day. Humans and all that.

If you are really worried send a note to the vet and ask which they think is best.

My vet has advised that +/- a day is not going to hurt. I would agree that a day early is better than a day late. (I have had to do that and then re-adjusted the remaining doses for the 4 day schedule.)
