Adequan Needle Sizes for dogs

I have a vet appointment next week but figured I’d ask about others personal opinions too.

Has anyone used a needle that was smaller than 25g with Adequan Canine?

I give my dogs Adequan Canine. I use a 25g needle but was thinking of trying a smaller needle size because one of my dogs whimpers every time I do it and it does not help my confidence at all.

I am thinking of trying a 27g needle but wasn’t sure if Adequan was too thick to go through it.

I just used my 20g horse needles, but I give it SQ so nobody even notices (feline or canine). FYI - in case you are giving it IM, it’s not labeled SQ but it’s commonly given that way and it works equally as well

It has been a few years since I used Adequan for my dog (dog has since passed, Adequan worked great). I do not know what gauge the needles were but they were the same size as diabetic insulin needles. We did it SQ like DMK mentions above.

Nope, honestly you just going to need to use more pressure and in turn cause more pain. I would use a 22g.

I’ve left the vet field but when given previously we standardly used a 22 gauge needle. It isn’t the thickest of solutions but thick enough. Sometimes using too small of a needle will cause the solution to dispense too slowly causing the injection to be more uncomfortable.
