ADT Saddles...anyone still riding in one?

These have obviously been out of production for several years now, and they never caught on the way other French saddles did, but I know they’re nice quality and are generally loved by the people who have them. I’m pondering buying one as I got a lead on a Classique model in good condition for a great price (sub $1K)…the only thing stopping me is that I’m so unsure what type of horse that tree fits. The resale on them isn’t great since they are an under the radar brand, and I’ve already gone through the rigmarole of being stuck with a saddle that didn’t work for my horse and then took over a year to sell. I ride two horses now (my mostly retired guy, and a green TB lease horse) that are similar-ish in their backs. My guy is the harder fit–uphill with a big shoulder, medium wither, and angled back. The TB doesn’t have the sharkfin withers and is pretty “average” in build. Weirdly, both fit well in an old, old Crosby Centennial I have. The TB fits reasonably well into my old medium tree Beval. I’d be happy if it fits one or the other, but very much want it to work for my big-shouldered oldie.

So…anyone still bopping around in one of these have any feedback on what types of backs they fit? Any help is appreciated!

They fit similarly to the FM by Childeric. A fellow boarder has one for her TBs and likes it.

Thank you! That’s really helpful!

I had one until about a year ago! Probably owned for 10+ years. Beautiful soft leather that still looked new when I sold it. It fit my warmblood and I’ve had it on TBs. I would say similar to other french saddles. I bought a new horse who has the widest ribs and very very flat back, so it didn’t work for him. I went with an Italian tree.

I loved that saddle. Had a narrower twist that I found super comfortable. Only thing I would say is it’s harder for resale later as people are not so familiar with them.

I still have one. It fit my half Irish TB, half JC TB very well. The horse is gone now but I am keeping the saddle. I think it was the Gazelle model. Excellent quality and still looks like new.

Me! I have a very hard to fit older WB for whom it made no sense to get a custom saddle as I don’t expect him to be competing much longer. My best friend had a really beat up ADT bopping around and it fit him perfectly. I just shipped it off to a saddle restorer and I am really excited for the results!!
