Adult dressage "camp" or vacation

I’m hoping to find a dressage camp or vacation, preferably west cost of Canada or US. Somewhere to take lessons on experienced horses probably 2x a day with some options for other recreation.

Any suggestions?

Equitours has riding vacations of every sort, including in the US.

What type/level of riding are you planning, and what sort of experience do you have? Are you a person who is actively riding and wants a different experience for a couple weeks, or are you a horse-less person who wants a chance to ride for the first time in several years?

I have three horses and event lower levels. I’m looking for 1st/2nd level on someone else’s schoolmaster types. If it’s in BC, I could take a horse of my own but want more than one lesson a day.

A poster named HSS was going to start one a few years back:

No idea if it got off the ground though!

I’ve gone for 3/4 day “vacations” to different trainers that have schooling horses.

It’s easy to do, simply contact a trainer you like, see if they have horses available to use (sometimes clients will let the trainer use their horse for occasional lessons), and if you could get two lessons per day for however many days you want.

Pick a city with a lot to do, like Seattle.

Definitely an idea. I had something else in mind though… Roughly 10+ years ago there was a place in Georgia. Had cabins on site, made meals B&B style, had a lake and canoeing and hiking in addition to the horse stuff. More of a one stop shop, and outside a city.

Thanks

Are you thinking of Gina Kruger? She’s in Georgia. Sounds like her place.

I don’t know anyone who does it in an organized way. I approached a trainer who lives a couple hours away but clinics in my area. Trailering there for individual lessons wasn’t realistic, but trailering there for a week “boot camp” worked great. It was a great way to really focus on a couple of bad habits. I got several lessons in a row without the chance to fall back into the bad habbits between lessons.

I went to her place for a weekend once. Very nice, but rustic–located outside a cute college town. She has since sold the property I believe due to change of life needs.

You would think there would be a bunch of opportunities for this kind of skilled vacation!

If I were you, I would really go all in!

Go to Spain: Epona is made for this! www.eponaspain.com

Go to Germany: Hof Kasselmann is a leader in service, treats their clients like royalty, and has 100 to 150 dressage horses in work everyday. http://hof-kasselmann.de/front_content.php?idcat=3

Both of the above have excellent English speaking trainers. Wish I knew of one closer to West coast. But hey, why not go “all in”?

Why not? Just that pesky few thousand dollars expense? LOL

Might be a little hard for the other half to swallow while I jet set on extra expensive horse vacation, vs just driving somewhere for a few days…

Wishful thinking.
