Adult Horse Forums?

Are there any horse forums for people with extensive showing, training, breeding experience? I love forums but find they are mostly first time horse owners or young riders. Any tips for us oldsters who have seen and done it all where we can share info all the way back to the 70s maybe?

Isn’t this the definition of COTH? Very few teen newbies here. Check out the thread “Tell me your age” and the one about things that have changed. Lots of rust breeches on both

This was my thought too, when I read the OP.

Darn, I do love rust breeches.

My thought, too. And canary breeches for me.

Hi - welcome to COTH. That’s what we are here. Mostly old. Some would even call us middle-aged-keyboard-warriors (if you don’t get the reference, head on over to the dressage forum, where certain posters of ill-repute have bashed COTHers as being such).

I’d say a good 50-60% of us are seasoned competitors and/or trainers. I’ve been competing for 40 years, training for 30. I both personally know and virtually have known a lot of people here for the last 20 years. Same faces…errr…usernames.

Anyway, welcome!

While I am current horseless with no plans to get involved again. I am in my late 40’s, was an FEI level barn manager for CDE’s for over 15 yrs. Competed at two World Championships; pairs and four in hands as well as the British National Championships and worked for a two time Olympic 3 day eventer. I have had the privilage to have had lessons with some of the greatest and prolific drivers. I was in the coaching world for several years. In my early 20’s I worked at White Horse Farm which was one of the largest Standardbred breeding farms in PA (at the time) while they were dispursing the herd. Where I groomed yearlings, did foaling, tended to our teaser stallion, and assisted in AI breeding. And of course over all horse management. I am also a Pony club graduate to level B. I attended Know Down every year.

I was born and raised with horses/ponies, my mom used to strap me in my car seat to the pipe cart floor with bunge cords.

I may be your Sr in years, but nowhere near the experiences!
OP:
Take note.
You can’t tell who you’re talking to here until you find out.
PLENTY Adult Experienced posters here already. In every discipline you might want.
Why look further?

Have to admit that I wasn’t sure what was meant by “adult” when I read the thread title. :flushed:

That would be COTH. You’re already here.

Plus we have the occasional train wreck for your reading pleasure.

I am now laughing so hard… and shocked that this had not even entered my mind.

I admit when I clicked this I thought it would be a reference to ahem something more spicy (and I don’t mean the usual COTH guacamole).

I’m not a member of any, but there are FB groups for equestrians “back in the day” or of specific eras (like the 70s, 80s, 90s).

My mind went to the same place . I swear, I’m not an immature teen, just a middle aged woman who has the sense of humor of a teen.

OP: Welcome! You will find a lot of educated and helpful people on COTH. Lots of experience here. That said, most of us can separate the good from the bad in both “the olden days” and now. We all agree that there are good and bad from both eras. Well, most of us do anyway.

Thank you Everyone and Im happy to know there are plenty of accomplished riders here too. i’ve raised trained bred, shown World Champion Quarter Horses and National High Point Pleasure horses back in the day., 70s… have owned some fabulous broodies and broke many a horse and raised many good ones. I held my Kentucky Thoroughbred trainers license for a while and raced,/exercised/trained and bred TBs too. Done a good bit of open show judging and just about everything in between so I can handle any aspect or horse ownership with no problem. I just wish convos didnt turn into unwanted advice and accusations, to the point I feel like Im talking to a teenager. I sure would like to gab with gals who grew up in the 60s-70s and began riding as kids. There are so many interesting stories to share. I had a penchant for getting pics of stallions that were standing at stud and saw in person the likes of Sonny Dee Bar, Sonny Go Lucky, Canadian Cabin Bar, Skipa Star, Impressive, Te N Te etc. Is there anyone here that was into the AQHA scene in the 70s and 80s? I enjoy seeing pics etc of the old times. thank you everyone!

Thank you, Im unfortunately one of those AQHA gals from the 70s and having ADHD my youthful Quarter Horse obsession with information has resulted in a memory full of useless information.
