I’m hoping someone out there can help me figure out how to fit the Thinline muzzle. My 15hh QH mare has a fairly refined head. I have the Cob sized Thinline halter and Cob sized muzzle. My mare is able to push the muzzle to the side to eat longer grass which pokes between the fins. I’ve contacted the Thinline company and to their credit, a pony sized muzzle was mailed to me. The smaller muzzle was too tight, even when adjusted as loosely as possible. The Thinline representative confirmed this (too tight) when I sent photos. I’ve been offered a refund from the company, so I can’t complain much…I just hate to give up on this muzzle because it’s the only one that fits in the automatic waterer at my boarding farm. It seems to me that my horse’s head is fairly typical for her breed so I certainly think there must be others who have found the secret to making this muzzle work! All suggestions welcomed, thanks!
I had to send mine back, no matter what I did it just didn’t sit in the right place. The hole at the bottom was always too high and sat between my horses nostrils, preventing him from getting any grass. If I loosened it he stepped on the fins at his chin and broke the zip ties. It just didn’t work at all. For what it’s worth, I’ve had great luck with the green guard muzzle. Not sure if it would work in your automatic waterer, but it’s a far better fit than the flexible filly for my horse.
Thanks for responding, VTMorgan06. It’s good to know I’m not the only one who struggles with this muzzle. I am a fan of Green Guard, however, even the pony sized GG muzzle is too big for the 10" water opening, sigh. I wonder if you could have cut the hole in your Flexible Filly into sort of a vertical oval to give your horse a spot to eat from, not that it matters now.
How are they able to eat at the bottom? A small hole? Maybe you can put a strip of gorilla tape ( good stuff lots of color choices) around the lower part of the muzzle where it is so open on the sides? ( does that make sense?) That way it is still open and airy but she can’t get the grass into that open area at the sides of her mouth.
Candyappy, that’s such a good suggestion!! Brilliant! I’ve got plenty of gorilla tape and I’m going to give it a try!
