Hi everyone, just looking for some advice as a junior who is feeling a bit stuck at the moment.
For some background, I am 15 and a sophomore in high school. I currently half lease a tb who I’m hoping to do some local shows on this summer. I’m also at big lesson barn ~5 days a week, I work in exchange for lessons and school horses.
I have ridden for quite a few years now, and would describe myself as a competent rider up to 2’3. I have jumped more (2’6-2’9) and it has gone well, but I don’t jump that height regularly. Probably my biggest credit is that I have worked with several horses with issues: greenies, stoppers, etc.
Right now I am struggling with my goals in this sport. I am so in love with this sport, I’m happiest when I’m at the barn all day every day. I think if I could, my aspirations might be to “go pro” in the h/j world. But given my ability’s and financial constraints, I do not think that is realistic.
So my question is, what can someone like me to do further my riding ability? Would my best shot be to wait until I can drive, then look for a summer working student position? I am absolutely willing to put work in, and I understand that putting work in does not always mean getting to ride nice horses and jump bigger.
Sorry for the lengthy text. Essentially I’m just a junior who wants to know how to get further in this sport, while not having the money to do it.
