AEC coursewalks

As it was put to me by a long recognized organizer and TD welcome to ‘urban eventing.’ And she insisted that this is the economic reality; that we have to cater to the urban rider, to make things friendly for them to maintain their ‘business.’ So that was her opinion.

My opinion is that the above course looks plastic, and like a paved over parking lot covered with artificial turf.
Im so sick of hearing how eventing needs to change to make people money. No it doesn’t!! Sorry Pros…go do hunters. Sorry owners…go support showjumping if you want to make big bucks.

Eventing doesnt need to be “big business”. People will fund their own way…as long as farms keep having support and the ability to host Horse Trials. Considering eventing has been around since the what, 30’s? I don’t think we need to worry about it not having interest. It was more popular in the 90s before the internet was even available. Social Media is all you need to promote the sport.

This course depicts everything wrong with the sport. And after ALL the studies…the course designer still making flat faced jumps…on a showjump type course. Wheres the bravery aspect? Wheres the endurance aspect? How about the gallop? What a joke.

IMO, there is no such thing as an “urban” rider. Even people who live in cities have to go outside them to ride. They always have.

Not 100% true. Wasn’t there a stable in NYC for quite some time?

When we knew we were going to PC champs, I said “Western NC, it’s going to be hilly. You better make sure your horse is really fit”. Turns out, that wasn’t necessary. They were cleared from the vet box on the first check.

Definition of urban - “of or relating to cities and the people who live in them” It doesn’t say anything about staying inside. Not that this is the subject matter here.

:lol: The course looks like a putt putt course. Maybe next year they can put the windmill in. They can call it a technical obstacle. That way the riders would have to time galloping through to not get hit by the fan blades.

+1

But does the water complex have a waterfall??

That’s exactly it!

I was trying to think what it reminded me of - and that is it exactly!!

A miniature golf course!

That “grass” looks like it just came off a roll at Home Depot.

Okay, I’ll stop now, this is not funny, it’s just sad.
But I am more determined than ever now to support, in any way I can, those places that have not done this.

Those jumps. Is it me or is it basically just flat face table after flat face table? And we all know how well that works.

Apparently they were just putting sod down a few months ago. There was some concern it wouldn’t “adhere” enough in time to cope with studs. I wouldn’t want to ride on it!

Ok
From someone who is here, riding novice. Course is championship height, wide tables, to be expected. Very busy- your horse is going to need to be focused as there are a lot of levels close together. All my tables have flowers in front as a ground line, so the vertical aspect is lessened. We’ll see how it rides- my guess is that it will catch out a few horses/ riders from lack of focus- maybe even mine…

If people support it, it will be the future of eventing. If people vote with their feet, it will not.

Unfortunately, this seems to be Bellissimo’s vision for the future of eventing. A true cross country rider does not want the “Wellington Showcase North” to be their championships. All this guys sees is money and how much he can make. Too bad that he landed in the horse world to make it…

Terrain???
oh my god the shotgun jump[s]… L O L… i don’t know whether to laugh because it’s so absurd or just shake my head…

no but seriously, no one should have expected terrain and hills – this is Tyron, flat as a pancake; I expect illustrious CMP has maxed the height and technicality to cover for that… from the looks of the coursewalk, i’m not wrong.

i like the beehive fence. many of the fences look very forward and inviting - let’s just hope they are not all squished into the same tiny field like they were for the PC champs…
Tryon is actually in the foothills, if you’ve ever been to FENCE it is a far cry from “flat as a pancake”. Now whether or not MB had hills to work with (hard to believe he doesn’t) or didn’t want to spend the resources developing a course that incorporated the hills, who knows.

That course left me shaking my head. If you look in the background you can see lots of other fences are mushed in like peas on a plate. That and the artificial footing? Not XC.

The event itself is flat - there’s a few dinky hills but nothing I would say is terrain.

But this is what I think of when I think terrain - it can be hard to see how steep some of those hills are but there is very little flat ground barring the run thru the dressage and stadium:

at first I thought you were arguing with me and saying there was plenty of terrain - my eyes just about popped out of my head! Sticky Situation - LOL!

Alackaday… see… I’m used to places like Huntington and SBHT… So ‘terrain’ has a little bit of a different meaning up here.
Haha no I was definitely agreeing with you!

Now THAT looks like fun!

I agree with you about the venue. I thought you were saying that the area itself was flat as a pancake. It’s unfortunate that the area is so beautiful and yet the “XC” is on manufactured footing. The foothills of NC are really gorgeous, and just a little farther West is stunning.

There are two facilities that have bid for WEG 2018. One is Bellissimo at Tryon, and we’ve seen what a bastardization of eventing he seems to produce. The other is a beautiful facility in Slovenia that stepped up to host the Endurance World Champions this year after it was taken from the UAE. They don’t have a XC course yet, but they have the room to build one, and whatever they build is likely to be better than anything Bellissimo is capable of producing in 2 years.

My vote is Slovenia.

oh no! sorry if I wasn’t clear. That area IS gorgeous and yes, you’re right, hilly!

As the locals call the venue…Disney World. Just got back…glad I’m not riding.

Just wanted to say…
