Are there any special rules for the AEC’s that differ from a normal horse trial? The only one that I can find on my cursory glance through the rule book is no whips for dressage. Anything else???
No whips for dressage is the only championship thing of which I’m aware.
I’ve heard they were picky about coat color for SJ when it was there a couple of years ago, which I don’t think is a rule (just “conservative color or tweed” for dressage, right?)… so take that FWIW. Weather’s gonna be good!
The Dressage whip rule is the only one that I remember. I hope that you have a blast! I will be cheering you from beside some jump, as I will be a JJ, from Wed. - Sat. Will riderboy and you be going to the dinner on Sat.? I bought a ticket, so will be there for that and to watch the Advanced finals. Hopefully, I will see you there! Good luck and safe rides!
Also, please be aware of when they post your scores. You have 30 minutes to do an inquiry, if they made a mistake. I was in 5th place, after Dressage, then thought that I moved up to 4th, after cross country at one of the Chatt Hills AEC’s. Someone put down a refusal on cross country, which dropped me to 40th. We could not hear anything in the tents. A friend happened to be checking scores and called me. I went to do an inquiry and was told the scores had been posted longer, than a half hour. Fortunately, a member of the ground jury, who had watched all of the BN rides came up and looked at her notes. She had me going clear over that fence, too. I was put back into 4th place. The rest of the story ended up being a huge mess, which I will not tell here. Long story, not so short, have someone at the score board keep checking for any mistakes. They can and do happen.
To piggyback on this, are there any rules about what time you can arrive? I’m from Area II, so I’m used to the one-day shows without any need for stabling. I haven’t been able to find any guidance on arrival times for stabled horses. Ideally, we’d leave after traffic, but that has us arriving at the horse park in the middle of the night. Anyone know if that’s ok, or if we need to arrive during business hours, so to speak?
Will the scores be posted online?
And will the online posting be timely? If they go by a paper version pinned to a board, and the online release doesn’t happen at the same time, that’s important to know. It depends on which scoring software they use, probably, and their policies on posting scores.
We always arrive late to KY Horse Park. Usually there will be nobody working in the entry booths, but the gate will be open. There is a roundabout after the gate, and you take the 2nd exit to the right. You will pass the livery stable on the right, and then there will be some speed bumps and then a stop sign. If you take a right at that stop sign, and a left at the next little road just after a small parking lot, that is where most of the stabling is; that is barns 5-21 where we always are for normal events. Although they may also be using some other barns for such a big show.
Trailer parking has always been back the way you came in, but take a right at that stop sign, and go around the All Tech Arena. They will have signs. Also, there are usually some workers driving around on golf carts during the night if you need help.
The park is pretty big. I used to get lost! Here is a link to a map of the horse park:

Have fun!! And don’t miss visiting the Draft Barn!
The online scores were the ones that showed me double clear on cross country and a move up to 4th. The Official score board is the official post. You have to check it. If there is a mistake, you have 30 minutes, after the scores are posted to the board, to do an inquiry. I found out the hard way that online scoring is not official. If you cannot hear the announcements in the barns, then you need to have someone up by the scoreboard to check for you.
