I’m ready to send in my membership application, but I’m wondering what’s the point in adding non-riding members of the family. Anyone know?

Maybe they hope to have the non riding person ride sometime during the year?
Maybe they hope to encourage more in the family to ride?
Maybe they hope to create more of a family friendly atmosphere, but why pay more it already is a family friendly atmosphere$??
Maybe just so they can add to the numbers of members?

I have a friend and she has been paying for years for her husband, and he NEVER rides a horse. NEVER. He goes to the rides with her.
I see it as a $ thing. I am open minded to the right/correct answer though.
LOL…you may be correct! I was thinking that maybe people can’t come along with you unless they were members, or something like that.
I am no longer an AERC member (changed disciplines), but isn’t a family membership less than two (or multiple) single memberships? So, if you so have a husband or child(ren) who compete it would cost less to join with a family membership? That being said, when I was member, I never got a family membership… I am lucky if my husband gets on a horse once a year.
There’s no point to getting a family membership if you don’t have other family members riding in AERC rides. If you are the sole person in your family that competes, then just get yourself an individual membership.
I’m the only rider, my husband and daughter would only come along for moral support - their “non-rider membership” would be $20 each, so yeah, it would be a waste of $40!
