Affordable Tall Boots for Tall People?

Hello all,

Is the idea of an affordable tall boot in a larger foot size even a thing? I would love to find a pair to ride and show local shows in for maybe under $250. I wear at least a size 11 with a full calf and am striking out for potential options.

Anyone have some ideas, brands, or places to search for unicorn tall boots?

I just bought a pair of Tuff Rider Regal xtalls. They go up to 11 and have numerous calf options, mine were 10.5 Wide calf for like $180? The fit pretty well, calf was comfy stretchy big and no break in really. Zipper back, ankle wrap.

Now they are weird pebbled super thin leatherette, the toe is a little odd and the ankle wrap had to conform a bit. They are perfect for back into the game local shows, lessons and clinics. The are comfortable enough to stroll around in, they may not last very long but for the price they can get me by.

Granted sitting next to my Vogels and Dehners they look poor, but I needed something to wear to get back and shape and see what my measurements will really be before the Customs go back to be reworked for my much older and bigger self.

Thanks for the info and the report on them. Looks like may be worth a chance for the price point!

I was initially a little hesitant because of having the mistake of trying TuffRider breeches that didn’t work out and left me high and dry, hahah.

I’m also a certified Tall Person, and I feel your pain! When I was on a low-budget boot search a few years ago and coming up empty handed, a friend of mine offered to sell me a pair of Mountain Horse dress boots she had kicking around for a super cheap so I had something to wear while I looked. They fit very well foot and calf-wise, but were way too short, so I took them to our local leatherworker and had him make a cuff to give me an extra 2 inches of height (and also a little bit more of a “Spanish top”). They turned out way nicer than I would have expected, and I ended up just sticking with them. Cost me $60 to have the cuff added!

As another tall person with an 11 -11.5 foot, the only boots I can wear off the rack are Ariat in their tallest height, and my favorite, Deniros, which I snagged a show pair half off this summer. They have an extra tall Spanish top so even if it doesn’t go to the back of my knee it looks tall enough.

The DeNiros look very nice, but they have always been outside of my price range. I would love to find those clearance sales with the large sizes sometime!

Ariat are the only off the rack that I’ve been able to use. Depends on the style.

I’ve had two pairs of Tredstep tall boots that worked well for me and I think the boot quality is great for the price. I have had some Ariats that worked too, but a couple styles were a little too short once the ankles dropped.

I am also boot size 11, tall, wide calf. My legs are even longer than they should be for my height (as are my arms, apparently made for swinging through trees). Typically my inseam is 35"

In any case, this really doesn’t fit into your request, b/c of the price range, but more of an FYI. After years in a pair Mountain Horse tall boots, I found the style had been discontinued. I gave in and decided to upgrade to Ariats ~$400.

Imagine my absolute SHOCK when the talls (Kinsely) were too tall. Even if I was going to assume a lot of drop after breaking them in, they really were too high. I have never, ever had anything be too tall or too long. Apparently the length of my leg is mostly femur?

In any case, for your future reference, Ariat talls are tall!! I currently have a pair of Ariat Bromont style that were on clearance in medium height & they are fine. I wouldn’t say they are a warm winter boot, but I do like them.

I did like the Mountain Horse while I had them. They lasted a long time. My intention was to re-order, but as I said, they were no longer available. They still have one pair in lower price range, but only field boots. I find I get stickers and hay stuff in the laces.

Right now it seems everything, everywhere, in terms of tall boots is backordered. I have been waiting for the medium height Kinsley for about 4.5 months.

Edit to add: I just looked up the Mtn Horse field boots and they aren’t even offered in 11. Grrrr… Aren’t Swedes tall? They must have bigger feet.

All the boot manufacturers seem to be backordered on many boot styles and out of most sizes, I recently was shopping for boots. Try eBay, and don’t be afraid of going used. Also, the tack shops have some great sales going on, look at Breeches.com, they had 40% off of everything. Do some google searches, sometimes you can find boots at smaller tack shops that don’t have as much online visibility as the big ones. Also, look at men’s sizes.

That’s a lot of what I found…many companies not even offering 11s now! Very disappointing.

I had a pair of Mountain Horses that I liked and were reasonably priced, but it seems that the price of boots has either jumped up or I can no longer find a good sale.

Thank you so much for everyone’s input so far. Much appreciated.
