Aged Farm Corgi needs a home in Maryland

I have to post this. I was browing petfinder yesterday and this old guy’s face is SO sad. The listing specifically states that he is a farm dog. Can’t someone find a corner for him somewhere?

oh this breaks my heart. What a good boy he sounds like!

Pretty sure I’ve seen this guy cross-posted at some other sites lately and I was on the fence. Seeing him at COTH, also, could mean it’s fate.

I wish they’d mention something about whether or not he has any house training.

Call them and ask!! If he was owned by an elderly person, I’m sure they had him in the house with them!

Ok crazyguineapiglady, please go get him…

Please please please go get him!

If I didn’t have 3 already, I’d be thinking about it.

Go get Gizmo!!!

The problem is, I’m only window shopping right now and was hoping to wait a month unless the PERFECT dog came along sooner. Also, I’ve put out feelers to foster (and hopefully fail at re-homing ) and have some potentials lined up at a rescue I’ve already worked with a little.

Maybe I could see if Gizmo needs a foster home now and if he isn’t right for us, adopt him out or send him back to work with the other rescue later? Uggh, I hate trying to do the homeless animal shuffle when you only have one spot to offer. :frowning:

Awwwwwwww…I so don’t need more dogs. And he’s too far away.

We just adopted a little Corgi girl named Millie, and I don’t have room for another, either. He sounds so deserving - hope someone can get him. The numbers of Corgis needing homes really surprised me when I started our search for a younger girl to be a companion for our older male.

What kind of crack are they smoking to charge money to adopt out an older dog? I know you want to keep him out of harm’s way, but be serious. The adoption group obviously didn’t have to neuter this dog, and he more than likely was properly cared for up to now.

Looks adorable, sorry I can’t help, other than to rant.

You don’t know that the rescue didn’t neuter him, run extensive bloodwork, bring him UTD, treat him for heartworms, worms, etc… It also mentions all their dogs are microchipped. I think $150 is good deal, even for a senior!

Regardless of that, adoption fees aren’t necessarily to pay for the dog you are getting but to offset the cost of ALL the dogs they take in. Some will cost the rescue no more than food and others, even the healthy ones, will be in the hundreds. The fees are set to balance it out.

I haven’t forgotten about this guy but I’m a little slow to commit. Also, Leonardtown is a couple hours away and I can’t make it over there to see him for another week or so. If anyone is closer and wouldn’t mind checking him out for me, please let me know.

CGPL, I would bet you lunch that this dog was already neutered and more or less current on shots, having been an apparently beloved pet before its owner was hospitalized.

I get that rescues are often doing great work with minimal resources. I just find them to be (at times) unrealistic and out of touch. Older cats and dogs are terrifically hard to place. $150 isn’t terrible, but it still seems high to me for a dog that I doubt they spent a bunch of money on.

Actually, the part about their adoption rates was the standard mumbo jumbo and not specific to this guy. Sometimes you find out after applying that they will discount seniors or special need dogs. It’s not a bad way of weeding out the serious applicants from the ones who are just trying to get the cheapest animal. Better to get fewer applications than waste time on 20 where there are only 2 suitable homes, I say.

While seniors are harder to place, it’s often because rescues are more protective of them. Living in a foster home a few extra months or even the rest of his life is not the worst thing that could happen to Gizmo.

I know I’m not in a position to take him right now but should be in a couple weeks. It has nothing to do with the fee or his age, just the back-to-school chaos we have going on. I’d probably feel differently if he was sitting in a shelter or on CL, though. Hopefully he’ll go poof before I can get serious!
