Aggressive biting gnats/midges in my house!

I live in Florida. Apparently we have a new infestation/variety of biting gnats that started last summer. These bugs are more aggressive then the usual variety. Tend to cluster under the lights if you go outside at night and worse yet, they are back. Not only are they back, they have somehow managed to get into the house and are now biting us!

We had a couple nights in the 20’s and now it’s been warm again- apparently warm enough for these things to hatch. No idea how they are getting in the house- I’m assuming the front door. Honestly I’m thinking about buying two of those bug zappers and hanging one under the porch light and putting another one near the horse paddocks. Any other suggestions for waging war on these things? Unfortunately they are in the house. I killed one last night in the kitchen as it just happened to land on a jar and I saw it. But there are more and I woke up with bug bites on my face this morning.

I had washed all the bedding in the house thinking we had an infestation of something but now I suspect it’s these miserable gnats. Oh, the joys of Florida.

Do you have any plants or old veggies/fruit in the house?

Not that I’m aware of. I should probably check the pantry but things are organized so unless something got pushed back?

I just ask because they will breed in wet anything. Plant soil, old moldy potatoes, even wet towels.

Instead of the big one for less than $16.00, on ebay, you can get a rechargeable by usb small mozzie zapper on ebay.

I bought 4 as hubby leaves the door open and using the tablet for work in the dark, I had insects walking all over the screen.

They do not go all night. They take 2 hours to recharge. I turn one on and if I wake up and it is flat I turn the next one on.

They are silent except for the very satisfying sound of an insect being electrocuted. Muhahaha :japanese_ogre: :smiling_imp:

It is bliss not having insects on the screen and not being bitten by mosquitoes.
