Aggressive dog story in NYT

Just shaking my head over this one.

Starting with naming the dog “Syko” (srsly?!?) to keeping a known-to-be-dog aggressive animal in a publicly accessible shop to opening the door when dog was not secured onto the public way.

Probably a bit of muck raking going on here but still. Sickening.

I rarely slam dogs based on breed, but I’ve never met a white GSD who didn’t have bite issues.
And that includes the one that sent me to a plastic surgeon to have my lip repaired.

Hmmm. I haven’t encountered too many but that’s an odd coincidence.

FWIW, my ex used to work for a vet and he did a lot of dog grooming. The dog he groomed with the nastiest temperament was a cocker spaniel.

The headline is kind of click baitish. A dog killing another dog does not seem like it would make the headlines of the NYTimes so I assumed (just reading the headline) that the article was talking about a dog killing a human.

How does a book store that sells children’s books in French have enough traffic to stay in business? Let alone make it such that the owner can afford to pay all those vet bills.

My question is how you keep 5 active large breed dogs on the Upper East Side? Those poor dogs NEVER get a decent amount of exercise.

My very first day working as an assistant for a vet he asked me what I thought the dog most likely to bite would be. I was thinking Chow or something. Nope - he said it would be a male black Cocker Spaniel.

Well, yes! This has to be part of the dog’s issue.

I am always amazed by dog owners in Manhattan; it speaks to how much people want the companionship of a dog. Having a dog, especially a large breed dog, in Manhattan is work.

5 large, dog-aggressive dogs? I don’t know how you’d even manage it at all, let alone well.

I am confused why she did not at least muzzle the poor thing.
In the article (who knows how accurate it is) she says there is nothing she could do, but darn, there are so many things and she did none of them.

I guess she kept them in the basement. Sometimes.

I sure wouldn’t be taking my kids to that store!

The photo may be of a dog walker, so her one dog among others.
It’s a sight seeing those walkers and how well the dogs cooperate, especially when they are all different types, unlike the photo shown.
It’s like watching boot camp training, professional, coordinated and no complaining.

It was a black Cocker Spaniel! Don’t remember if it was male or female.

Nah, it’s not the color. I had a white GSD and she was fine. Small dogs, etc- no problem.

Yes, could be a dog walker but all five of those dogs are the book seller’s dogs. All related. They have five GSDs per the article.

Yeah, after reading the whole article, it’s clear. It’s not the dog, it’s the owner. She should have been PTS a long time ago.

Syko too.

It stuck in my head, because he was telling me this during my very first task on my very first day - hold a dog for euthanasia. A buff Cocker Spaniel that looked just like the one I had at home at the time. Don’t remember the reason for the euthanasia, but it was certainly a very memorable first day!

What a weird thing to say.

I read the article and can’t believe animal control didn’t do anything about those aggressive dogs after the first time they attacked and seriously injured another dog. Se’s an irresponsible owner and “Syko” does not belong with her.

In case you are not aware, Ghazzu is a vet.
