That does not make their observations wrong.
It could also mean that the breeders are not good dog trainers and you end up with unruly progeny in that area.
The woman had both parents, and the littermates (hello littermate syndrome) all on site. This was not a reputable breeder. The white gsd may registerable by akc but no good breeder, show or working, will produce then.
FCI, which is breed standard in Europe and pretty much the rest of world, does not allow white.
I agree, and it seems like unconscionable vanity. I will say there is a white GSD in my suburban neighborhood who gets walked 3X a day and is very sweet. He doesn’t even hold it against me that he occasionally walks by when I’m using a scary lawnmower! But I also respect people who have observed patterns who see dogs in multiple contexts.
However…
I have been at barns where dogs run loose and get plenty of exercise who have been very territorial and unpleasant even to regular boarders who they see daily.
It’s unconscionable too this person took no action to limit the risk to small dogs, when she knows what her dog is capable of, and the fact she’s a small business owner in an expensive-to-rent-in neighborhood makes this even more of a head-shaker.
I mean, she named the dog “Psycho,” so there’s that as well.
The dog attacked and injured another dog out in a public space. Four days later it does exact same thing. AC did nothing.
We always encourage reporting and a paper trail. There was a paper trail. And the attacks were outside on a public sidewalk, not inside the store. How? Why did this continue and continue?
According to an above post, owner said the dog had never done it before. Apparently, no one thought to check.
Right. That’s why I’m complaining about AC. The owner always says that. AC knows that. Did they not even look the dog up? Per NY law, GSD now meets their definition of a dangerous dog.
"The first confirmed attack by one of Ms. Hudson’s dogs was on May 3…
Four days later, a 22-pound Cavachon named Chloe and her Maltipoo friend Muppet were walking by when Ms. Hudson’s dogs struck again…
Ms. Davis said the police referred her to the city health department’s animal bite unit. She said she was later told by someone at the unit that they had interviewed Ms. Hudson, who told them the dogs had never attacked before and were moving out of the city in a few days, so they took no action."
That last sentence melts my brain. Serious injury in a public space and AC took the owner’s word for it?!
Then the dog attacks again, this time killing another. So much preventable suffering.
[Yes, I’m triggered. My leashed dog was attacked on a public sidewalk by a loose dog with a known -but unreported- bite history. I reported. What’s the point if AC doesn’t even look at their own records?]
Yeah, that was a BS reply. Hopefully a lawyer can use it to good effect.
Can we repeat that a little louder for those in the back?! And not just in regards to this thread, but the forums here in general.
I think sometimes the “white” or “black” or whatever color is “rare” gets bred for color rather than temperament and structure and then you tend to see a higher percentage of sketchy temperaments in the rare color of the breed. YMMV, but that’s what I’ve experienced in dogs.
