For those lucky enough to have a vet willing to travel to your farm, what is the routine & when do you have them out? Assuming you are using some timer protocol, the morning of the 18th to check, order semen, maybe hCG or deslorelin? Back out to AI & then back out to check for ovulation? My repro vet does not like to breed on the farm but it’s complicated this year. I myself am pregnant w/toddler at home and can’t ship the mares back & forth like I normally would. Being 8months pregnant & loading a mare & foal up seems like a nightmare & an accident waiting to happen. So I need to purpose a solid plan and say hey, we can do this! It would be w/great fresh semen, collectible M-F. Vet is great but obviously prefers to be able to walk out their door and US mares whenever they want.
My vet is breeding mine at my farm this year. He came out Thursday, mare was coming into heat. Will be back today, Monday, to see where we are, and possibly inseminating tomorrow! Super excited and hoping it will work out.
Last year he also came to breed at my farm, but we short cycled the mare so he came out Thursday and gave her a shot, checked on Monday, then bred on Weds or Thurs I believe, and by Friday the follicle was gone and she caught on the first try!
